Ayr United Jack: "Gutted to lose it in that way. Taylor finishes that late chance and we’re golden. Hopefully shows the board that we’re not quite the finished article yet, and can get a few more bodies in."

Ayr United manager Gary Naysmith tells BBC Scotland: "Apart from winning the game, they couldn't have given me any more. We stuck to the game plan, always looked a threat on the break.

"We started the first half and the second half the better team. Towards the middle and end of both halves, Kilmarnock came into it and asked us questions.

"In the main, we defended really well. We were just lacking numbers, it caught up with us a wee bit.

"We just leave Harry be, it's just a mistake. He was tremendous again tonight, came for everything, made some big saves. It's a horrible way to lose a game.

"It's a tough one to take, as we were really good and played our part in a really entertaining game.

"That's up there with one of the sickest feelings I've had at the end of a game."

If Ayr came here and put on a show, and performed well and lost narrowly, they'd take that.

It did play out like that, but right now they'll be gutted.

It sounds ridiculous to say, but Ayr played their best stuff on level terms. They wanted to protect what they had, and Kilmarnock eventually dominated.

Time seemed to stop as Nicky Clescenco guided his chip over the keeper, over Liam Dick, and into the net.

Regardless of what the Moldova international goes on to do at Killie, he'll always be remembered for that.

Five goals of absolute quality, for all different reasons.

Ayr United will be shattered at the defeat. Kilmarnock dominated most of he game but Ayr always had a threat, particularly Ross Taylor who was exceptional.

It's just a shame the winning goal was a mistake from the goalkeeper. It was a horrible way for it to end but a terrific finish.

It might be victory over a side in the second tier, but this feels like it could be a big moment for Neil McCann's side.

Huge sympathy for Ayr United - and Harry Stone in particular - for the way it ended.

There are still big questions over how Kilmarnock are going to stop conceding goals, but the home fans won't be too worried about that right now as they spill out of Rugby Park this evening with huge smiles on their faces.

The atmosphere here is buzzing after the late excitement.

Ayr United's goalie coach Dave Timmins and their sub goalie Liam Russell are both over to commiserate Harry Stone.

The Ayr keeper looks gutted. It's his mistake that was punished but the big man had a superb game.

Apparently there was a VAR check for a red card for violent conduct right at the end there.

Not sure who it was, but Michael Schjonning-Larsen was down holding his... unmentionables.

We'll try and find out more on that. Reaction to come.

Nicky Clescenco's dink wins a pulsating Ayrshire derby.

Kilmarnock were so open at times but Ayr could only punish them twice, scoring early in each half to take the lead.

But each time, Neil McCann's men found a way back into the game, and proved clinical when the chance presented itself in the dying minutes.

Kilmarnock have the bragging rights, and a spot in the League Cup quarter-finals.

You feel for Harry Stone. It's a collision between him and Kevin Holt, who has dislodged the ball.

Clescenco does everything right. Delays, shows composure, good finish.

Kilmarnock give it away and Ross Taylor is haring at goal. It's two-on-two but Taylor turns Robbie Deas inside out.

He frees himself up for the shot but this time, he curls his left-footed effort just wide.

Huge chance.

This game has ebbed and flowed, and caught you be surprise with pivotal moments of real quality. Great drama.

As disappointed as he will be with the lapses from his side, Neil McCann will be heartened by the resolve from his Kilmarnock players.
