Newcastle game plan. Thump it long and hope when Everton have a bunch of giants at the back. Pathetic. It’s gonna be a long night.

    Rob, London

This Newcastle team will struggle this season until they get a ball carrier in midfield. Sean Steur should be given his chance.

Big chance for Everton here. Jarrad Branthwaite nods the ball down to Thierno Barry, who misjudges the bounce and volleys Will Osula's arm more than he does the ball. He was only about eight yards out there.

Wasn’t really a shot, was it?

    It was a poor effort.

Did he try to chip him?

    Poor effort, thankfully for Newcastle.

Everton's second effort off target - this time it's Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who could have made better contact with a shot that goes wide.

  18. Pickford got his angles all rightpublished at 20:08 GMT

    Newcastle 0-0 Everton

    John Anderson
Former Newcastle defender on BBC Radio Newcastle

Got his angles all right didn’t he? Knew exactly where it was going Pickford. Knew it was drifting wide.

The problem for Osula is when you’re drifting in on that left hand side and you hit it with your right, you’ve got to hit it perfectly.

Oooh close. Second time already Newcastle's Harvey Barnes comes in from the left before clipping a ball that goes just past the far post. This one was closer to going in though. Jordan Pickford was concerned.
