Aston Villa boss Unai Emery was asked about his club's relationship with Chelsea in the transfer market.

It was put to him that the two clubs shared a productive relationship, to which he replied that it was "only through the deals for money".

"Good relations?" questioned the Spaniard. "They want to kill us and we want to kill them!"

He added: "We have good players and we can sign one player off them, it's not a good relationship - it's a deal for money and a deal for players.

"I am happy for Emiliano Martinez and Morgan Rogers and I know I am not happy for Chelsea."

Emiliano Martinez's £7.5m move from Aston Villa to Chelsea was the eighth deal between the two clubs in the past four years.

Martinez joined Chelsea after Nicolas Jackson's transfer the other way last week.

No two Premier League clubs have exchanged more players, on permanent or loan deals, in the past four years.

A series of deals between the clubs began after Chelsea's owners, BlueCo, took control of the club in 2022 and signed Carney Chukwuemeka from Villa for £20m that summer. Ian Maatsen (£37.5m, to Villa), Omari Kellyman (£19m, to Chelsea) and Axel Disasi (a £5m loan deal, to Villa) subsequently moved between the clubs.

This summer alone has brought four more deals. Morgan Rogers completed a £117m move Chelsea, while Alejandro Garnacho joined Villa on loan with a conditional obligation to buy in a deal worth around £43m.

Jackson then moved to Villa for £65m, before Martinez followed.

Since 2022, Chelsea have paid Aston Villa £163.5m for players. Villa have spent £102.5m on Chelsea players including Axel Disasi's loan fee. That figure could rise to £150.5m should certain criteria be met to make Garnacho's loan move permanent. Chelsea believe the terms are easily reachable.

It feels like talking about Chelsea's transfer business immediately brings Aston Villa into the discussion in this window.

Emi Martinez finally left Aston Villa at the end of last week, completing a £7.5m move to Chelsea, and was immediately thrust into their starting line-up for Sunday's 4-3 win at home to Brighton.

The Argentina goalkeeper was not the first player to move between the two clubs, and seems unlikely to be the last...

Enzo Fernandez potentially leaving for Manchester City could open the door for fellow midfielder Lamine Camara to arrive at Stamford Bridge from Monaco as his replacement.

It could be Chelsea's 13th deal coming in, with exits exceeding 30 players as the Blues are expected to surpass the Premier League player sales record they set at £300m last season.

There is further intrigue around departures with Mykhailo Mudryk looking for a loan move and still a lack of clarity on the futures of Pedro Neto and Tosin Adarabioyo.

The likes of Dario Essugo, Deivid Washington and Shim Mheuka could also leave.

Manchester City's midfield is "cracked" Logan?

It has certainly lost a lot of experience in the summer, and any team without Rodri will be diminished.

But "cracked"?

England internationals Elliot Anderson and Nico O'Reilly started at the base of their midfield in Friday's 4-1 win at Crystal Palace.

Rayan Cherki scored twice and pulled the strings in a central, attacking role, while Phil Foden showed signs he is back in form with two assists from the right and Antoine Semenyo kept the Palace defenders busy on the left.

New teen talent Ayyoub Bouaddi came on off the bench, while academy winger Ryan McAidoo impressed following his second-half introduction.

City also had Mateo Kovacic and Rico Lewis in reserve, while Jeremy Doku was out injured.

How many other teams in the Premier League would like a "cracked" midfield like that?

Enzo Fernandez missed Sunday's Premier League win over Brighton and his future is under increasing uncertainty, having been linked with a big-money move to Manchester City.

Enzo Maresca worked with the Argentina midfielder at Chelsea and needs to bolster his ranks following the departures of Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Nico Gonzalez and Tijjani Reijnders this summer.

Any potential move would likely be a club record deal, surpassing the £116m paid for Elliot Anderson earlier this summer.

Hull City are in talks to sign Chelsea midfielder Dario Essugo on a season-long loan.

Sources close to the Portugal Under-21 international say he would prefer a move within the Premier League, rather than joining Chelsea's sister club, Strasbourg.

The Tigers are expected to be active before the transfer deadline having had a move for Eintracht Frankfurt winger Jean-Matteo Bahoya collapse over the weekend.

Tottenham have been loosening the purse strings this summer.

They have paid up to £100m for Sandro Tonali from Newcastle and £85m for Mateus Fernandes from West Ham to bolster their midfield.

And Spurs have also brought in two attacking players from Manchester City - winger Savio for an initial £75m and striker Omar Marmoush on loan with an obligation to buy for £60m.

However, Roberto de Zerbi's side are bottom of the Premier League table after two games, having lost twice without scoring a goal.

Everton have been quoted a fee of about £40m for Monaco forward Folarin Balogun, although he is expected to be available for significantly less.

The United States international is keen to complete a move before Tuesday's deadline.

The situation is linked to Beto's exit to Fiorentina and potentially whether the Toffees sign Richarlison from Tottenham, with attacker Iliman Ndiaye going in the other direction.

Balogun didn't feature in his side's win over Marseille on Sunday night.
