  1. Bye for now - briefly!published at 18:04 BST 5 September

That's all from us for now - but we'll be back in just under an hour with the build-up to tonight's big game.

Following this afternoon's three matches, reigning champions Celtic remain two points clear of the field, with St Mirren still second on goal difference ahead of Rangers.

Meantime, you can read the match reports from Rangers' 1-0 win over Motherwell and the two drawn games - as Dundee United score late to level with Falkirk and Aberdeen and Kilmarnock play out a goalless affair at Pittodrie.

And don't forget that tonight's Premiership highlights will be shown on BBC One Scotland and the BBCiPlayer at 22:30.

  2. Aberdeen 'tired and lethargic' in Kilmarnock drawpublished at 17:58 BST 5 September

    FT: Aberdeen 0-0 Kilmarnock

Aberdeen head coach Stephen Robinson tells BBC Scotland: "Obviously disappointed. We looked tired, we looked lethargic. We've had two very hard games, a lot of travel.

"We got a little bit more energy in the second half, without the quality. We got out of the game what we deserve.

"It's frustrating because there was a real lack of energy and pace about the game, from both sides. The game was of really poor standard.

"We made tired decisions, too many touches on the ball, too many passes backwards. We tried to get a reaction at half-time, which we did to an extent, but we didn't deserve to win the game."

  3. Goodwin 'in contact throughout the game'published at 17:56 BST 5 September

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Falkirk

Lee Sharp was also questioned about manager Jim Goodwin's continued absence from the dougout, with the Irishman watching on in the stand after his recent spell in hospital.

"He came in yesterday to training," the assistant tells BBC Scotland. "Today he wanted to come along to the game.

"He's still recovering, but he was there in some capacity and in contact with us throughout the game."

  4. Sharp hails United characterpublished at 17:53 BST 5 September

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Falkirk

Dundee United assistant manager Lee Sharp tells BBC Scotland: " I thought the first half an hour we were too passive. We weren't at it at all and it took us that length of time to get going.

"I thought the last 10 minutes of the first half we started to come into it and created a few chances. The goal was poor from our point of view defensively. We built into the game after 35 minutes - we were just far too passive in that first instance.

"Second half, I thought we dominated the game, right from half time, and I thought we should've went on and won the game.

"Character was great, we made changes and freshened it up as the game went on and the guys that came on made a real impact. The character was there, the fans could see that and, even once we scored, there were only minutes left and we were pushing to get the winner so you could see the disappointed at the end of the game from the players."

  5. Bain for Scotland?published at 17:51 BST 5 September

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Falkirk

Former Motherwell, Hearts and Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday has just said on Sportsound that he is excited thinking about Sebastien Pocognoli's first squad as Scotland head coach given the SFA's push to give young players an opportunity.

However, John McGlynn is pushed the case for experienced goalkeeper Scott Bain after his performance at Tannadice.

"I think Scott [Bain] ticks every box for [the national team]," the Falkirk boss tells BBC Scotland.

"If you're looking for someone to play a new style and play out from the back and still makes saves, and bring composure and calmness to your defence, then Scott ticks all those boxes, so I have no doubt the Scotland manager will be looking at Scott Bain."

  6. Shankland injury 'looks quite significant'published at 17:48 BST 5 September

    FT: Rangers 1-0 Motherwell

Asked about Lawrence Shankland's first-half hamstring injury, Rangers manager McInnes commented: "It looks quite significant, to be honest.

"Similar injury we think that he had at Hearts last January. That was a period of time that he was out with that. We'll get the scan done on Monday and see how it looks then rather than speculating.

"Disappointing from Lawrence's point of view and from our point of view because obviously he was leading the line and scoring a few goals in the last couple of games.

"There were more positives than negatives from today, but that was a negative."

  7. McInnes 'really pleased with a lot of' what he sawpublished at 17:46 BST 5 September

    FT: Rangers 1-0 Motherwell

Rangers manager Derek McInnes "absolutely" believes his side could have enjoyed a more comfortable win in their 1-0 victory over Motherwell.

"We'd have taken any sort of win, because we're up against a good team in form, but I really enjoyed how many chances we created, I enjoyed the organisation of the team," he said.

"We kept Motherwell really at arm's length for a lot of the game. They're a team who normally get a lot of plaudits for their creativity. I thought we did both sides of the game really well. What we didn't do is just put the game to bed in terms of getting that second goal. It could've been a far bigger scoreline on the chances created.

"Really pleased with a lot of what we saw today. Obviously, we've picked up a couple of little knocks, which is far from ideal. In terms of a better performance, it was there in spades today."

  9. McGlynn frustrated with Tannadice drawpublished at 17:41 BST 5 September

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Falkirk

Falkirk manager John McGlynn tells BBC Scotland: "Very frustrated. If we could have just have held out, another two points would've been massive. I thought we started the game really well on the front foot and took the game to Dundee United and created some good opportunities.

"Great goal from big Jacob [Murrell]. After the other night there, he missed a couple of chances, so I'm delighted for him that he's got that goal and he's off and running.

"Dundee United got themselves back in the game and took a little bit of control in the second half of the first half. Second half, started and probably went on the same way as the first half with Dundee United very much on top and we didn't create an awful that.

"I think tiredness set in and then it was just a matter of could we see it out. We defended our box really well and when we didn't, Scott Bain made saves."

  10. Paulsen 'kept score down' in Ibrox loss - Johanssonpublished at 17:38 BST 5 September

    FT: Rangers 1-0 Motherwell

Motherwell manager Alfred Johansson tells BBC Sportsound: "They were better than us today, they deserved the three points.

"The main reason for the result today is two things - we have a very, very, very, very good keeper that keeps the scored down today, that's one; the second is that we don't play up to our best.

"If you want to come to Ibrox and get a result, you need to perform at your best and we need to learn from that.

"You never want to concede a goal, it doesn't matter how it happens. The fact that it's only 1-0, is thanks to Alex Paulsen. It doesn't matter if you're a keeper, centre-back, full-back six, 10 winger or nine, you're going to make mistakes because it's not easy to play in that way always.

"We have 150, 180 passes more than Rangers today. The chance of making a mistake in that passing situation is higher for us. Obviously, that can happen."

  11. 'A lot to like' for Killie's McCannpublished at 17:36 BST 5 September

    FT: Aberdeen 0-0 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock manager Neil McCann tells BBC Scotland: "I'm absolutely delighted. The boys were magnificent, we deserved to win the match. Their goalkeeper was outstanding, made some great saves.

"They changed it at half-time, asked us a few questions. Changed their shape, tried to spook us, but I felt we dealt with it with a lot of bravery and discipline.

"Once we settled, we came back into the match and kept pushing for a winner. That wasn't to be, but I felt we deserved the three points. I wasn't overjoyed with the point, I'm just really pleased at what they showed today.

"Sometimes questions are asked of a team that are not picking up points that are expected. We went forward, played the type of football that we want to play. A lot to like."

  12. Clyde return to top of fourth tierpublished at 17:33 BST 5 September

    Scottish League 2

After losing a three-goal lead last weekend and being knocked off the top of the table, Clyde are back as fourth-tier leaders after edging out Edinburgh City in a five-goal thriller.

That's because Elgin lost their four-game unbeaten run as they lost away to Dumbarton, who leapfrog Edinburgh off the bottom of the table after the capital side lost for first time in seven outings.

Stranraer leapfrog hosts Forfar into third after their impressive 3-0 win, with Spartans up to fourth after their victory in Stirling.

Good point that for Aberdeen. Killie had the better chances and Aberdeen are definitely heading for the bottom three, so every point is going to be valuable come the end of the season. Aberdeen are a very obviously poorly coached side. They have no clue how to play with each other.

    Wullie

Why did Stephen Robinson make those changes? He took off our captain and our main goal threat. What did he not like hearing at half time? I’m curious to know. He made three changes drastically and made us weaker. We play with no identity. We need to find a better way of playing and getting the best out of this group. There’s real potential not being harnessed due to weak formational changes.

  15. Accies stretch lead as County heldpublished at 17:24 BST 5 September

    Scottish League 1

Hamilton stretch their lead at the top of the third tier after inflicting East Kilbride's first home defeat of the season.

Ross County, who have a game in hand, also remain unbeaten but lose their first points - and it could have been more but for a late equaliser away to East Fife.

County remain unbeaten in 12 games this season, while the Fifers are without a win in six.

Third-top Alloa are now unbeaten in six after their draw away to Cove.

Meanwhile, Queen of the South's first win - and first points - take them off the bottom and above visitors Airdrieonians on goal difference.

  16. Thistle stay in touch with Stennypublished at 17:19 BST 5 September

    Scottish Championship

Partick Thistle end a run of three games without a win, the single-goal victory over Ayr bringing them to within two points of leaders Stenhousemuir, who won in Livingston last night.

Raith Rovers remain in third after their win over Inverness, who drop to second bottom.

Caley Thistle are leapfrogged by Queen's Park, whose first win leaves Morton at the bottom on their own.

    Scottish Premiership

Rangers' victory is not enough for Derek McInnes' side to overtake second-top St Mirren on goal difference as they overtake visitors Motherwell.

It leaves the Buddies and Celtic as the top two going into their meeting in Paisley this evening.

Dundee United's late equaliser keeps them ahead of visitors Falkirk, who stay second bottom.

Kilmarnock remain rooted to the bottom of the table, but their draw in Aberdeen means they are off the mark points-wise.

The boos rung out again at Pittodrie, this time to greet the final whistle.

Kilmarnock may well feel they should have taken all three points back down the road.

In the end, it is a point and a welcome clean sheet.

Aberdeen were better in the second half, but overall it was pretty poor.
