James McAtee is given the responsibility in the Nottingham Forest midfield on the opening day.

Following Elliot Anderson's £116m move to Manchester City, Forest are looking for another talisman.

It is just a third Premier League start for the 23-year-old after a frustrating first season at the City Ground following a £30m move from Manchester City.

Yet there has been belief at Forest McAtee can flourish and just needs a consistent run of games to find his rhythm - something he did not have last season under four different managers.

The former England Under-21 international, who captained the Young Lions to Euro 2025 success, has impressed off the pitch with his attitude, despite his lack of game time.

McAtee, who is settled at the City Ground, had a week off at the end of last season but then trained every day using a specific programme set by Forest and his personal fitness, strength and conditioning coach to ensure he could make an instant impact this term.

Leeds United's Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is starting against Nottingham Forest, is approaching his 10th anniversary as a Premier League striker.

Signed by Everton from Sheffield United in a £1.5m deal on 1 September 2016, Calvert-Lewin has scored 71 goals in 274 top-flight appearances.

The 29-year-old, who has 12 England caps, scored 14 times in the Premier League last season.

Will he continue his good form in 2026-27 - and force his way back into the Three Lions squad after missing out on a World Cup spot?

Forest fans are still queuing to get into the City Ground with the supporters stretching down onto Pavilion Road outside of the ground.

With less than 20 minutes to go it remains to be seen if everyone will be in their seats for kick off.

Forest are using a new digital ticket system, which is now mandatory in the Premier League. The club used it during their Europa League games last season and in their two recent friendlies, with supporters still getting used to the new entry requirements.

Conference League champions Crystal Palace come into this new Premier League season with a new man at the helm in Pierre Sage.

The Eagles haven't been able to keep their hands off silverware in the last couple of years but they'll be wanting to improve on their 15th-place finish last season.

But for Sage, Oliver Glasner is rather big boots to fill.

On proving people wrong: "We're not focused on outside noise, we back ourselves to do well and hopefully we will have a really positive season."

    Alan Shearer
Former Newcastle striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I haven't seen Manchester United in pre-season. I saw them in this game and they didn't look fit, they didn't look ready to play 90 minutes of intense, high pressure, high energy football. There waws only one team that looked fit there and it wasn't Manchester United.

A shock to start the first Premier League Saturday of the season, we wouldn't want it any other way.

It's one of the shocks of the season already, it really is.

A lot of people, myself included, had Hull to go back down but if they can keep this level of performance going you never know.

Hull were supremely organised with a back five. A great result.

Manchester United more than a little concerned.

Fair play to Hull, they’ve been the far better team. More desire, more fight. Really poor from United.

All over and what a return to the Premier League for Hull City as they beat - and arguably beat comfortably - Manchester United.

Plenty for Michael Carrick to analyse there - the visitors ultimately lacked intensity and ideas.

Good work by John Egan as he gets in the way of Benjamin Sesko to take the sting out of his header.
