At the end of a long day of Premiership football, Hibs and Celtic are top of the table thanks to narrow wins over Dundee and St Mirren respectively.

Brendan Rodgers' reigning champions already have a two-point lead over likely closest challengers Rangers after the Ibrox side's draw with Motherwell yesterday.

Meanwhile, Falkirk matched Livingston's feat of starting life back in the top flight with an opening draw.

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson is taking the positives.

"If you are going to get beat, you prefer a 25-yarder in the top corner with a bit of quality," he tells BBC Scotland.

"A deflected goal so late on is frustrating. We are disapointed in the changing room but also know the levels we've shown as well.

"We said whatever the result, we want to show who we are - we're St Mirren.

"We worked on the five or six opportunities to counter and we didn't quite make the passes, but I can't ask for much more in terms of work ethic and organisation - we will show more quality in the final third - so we are proud of the boys but disappointed and that shows how far we've come."

Celtic - and Scotland - fans would have been concerned to see Kieran Tierney limp off early on his competitive return after leaving Arsenal.

However, manager Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Scotland: "Kieran hasn't had much football in the last few years and we have to manage him in the games and I thought he was excellent.

"He was very good and it was great to see him back at Celtic Park."

"It is a tough game and an emotional day - flag day - and I thought it was an excellent win," he says.

"We had a number of opportunities to score and we were unfortunate.

"They are a very well organised team. We just had to stay persistent and we were able to do that."

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is "very pleased" with his side's performance despite having to rely on a late winner against St Mirren.

"Naturally, we wanted more goals, but I think we played their system very well," he tells BBC Scotland.

"Stephen's teams are so well-organised and they're strong and make it difficult for you.

"But I think the goalkeeper has maybe kept the scoreline down and, whilst we didn't score, we didn't get disappointed and played some fantastic football."

Dundee head coach Steven Pressley repeats his message that he needs more new signings after the opening loss to Hibs.

"We worked very hard," he tells BBC Scotland. "We did some good things defensively. We had a good shape around us. Gave away two disappointing goals in a time where I felt we'd settled into the game quite nicely.

"The big frustration was, in possession we didn't show the belief, we turned the ball over unopposed at times when we could have made better choices. As a result of that, we had to defend more.

"I saw enough green shoots today [to suggest], we'll be okay.

"We're also playing against a Hibernian team that are way ahead of us just now. We understand that, but my responsibility is to try and reduce that gap."

Following his side's win at Dens Park earlier, Hibs head coach David Gray tells BBC Scotland: "It's all you can ask for, especially after the emotions of Thursday night and everything the players put into that.

"It was a real professional performance. The mentality and the character of the players was there for everyone to see. We responded in the best possible way. I can't complain with that.

"We had a lot of possession, but it was about patience and concentration.

"When the game stays 2-1, you're wary that Dundee will have opportunities or come into the game. The concentration levels have to be top - and they were. We were in control, dominated the game."

I felt Celtic in the first half were poor.

Second half, they upped the intensity, but as much as they were in control, they still weren't creating good chances.

So, as much as this will hurt them, I think St Mirren can take huge positives from the game. They defended brilliantly and limited Celtic's success.

Luke McCowan's late goal is enough to give Celtic a winning start to their title defence.

St Mirren suffered a late equaliser at the same venue in the final game of last sason. This time, the suffer defeat in the final moments.

He pointed out that they were not taking into account Celtic's tendency to score late - and so it proved.
