No upset to be had for Gainsborough Trinity, whose valiant FA Cup run is brought to an end by Harrogate Town.

The quality of the League Two side, who are 73 places higher, was just about enough in the end.

Gainsborough can leave with their heads held high but it's Harrogate who will be dreaming of a big third-round tie for only the second time in their history.

Harrogate goal scorer Dean Cornelius speaking to BBC Two:

"I don't know what I was doing in that position, it's not like me to get a headed goal but I'm buzzing from it but the main thing is that the team gets the win and are in the next round.

"We knew that it was going to be a tough game and that Gainsborough were going to be organised. They gave everything because it's a cup tie at the end of the day.

"The main message from the manager was to keep plugging away, be patient and get plenty of crosses into the box, and hopefully one will drop. Thankfully, James Daly's put a great delivery in and I've just put it in.

"In the week the manager said don't think that this will be easy because this was an unfamiliar position for us. Most games we're seen as underdogs and kind of pride ourselves on that and strive under that pressure.

"We knew that we'd have more of the ball and I think it was mainly not to underestimate them. They were going to be a threat on the counter-attack because it's a cup game and anyone can win."

Gainsborough Trinity manager Russ Wilcox speaking to BBC Two: "Lots of emotion. I must say, firstly, our fans were absolutely magnificent tonight. Unbelievable. We need that support every week now in the [FA] Trophy game and the league too.

"On the game, we struggled first half. They were very dominant. They're three leagues above, they should be. We found it difficult. We looked at changing shape but couldn't really.

"There was always going to be an overload for them so we were delighted to get in 0-0 at half-time.

"I thought second half we had a right go at it. We went to a front two later in the game and created half chances. I think it's a penalty on Fraser [Preston] as well but we didn't get that.

"But on the day, they're worthy winners to a degree. We have to hold our hands up to that. We fought to the end, right to the last minute."

Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver speaking to BBC Two:

"I think when you don't get that second goal, then it's human nature to get a little bit anxious when you know the prize at the end of the game.

"It's so big for us and we are overjoyed. We don't over-analyse it because we came to get the win.

"Yeah, we could have run over them first half but it wasn't to be. Still proud of the lads.

"We're emerging again and finding that identity which is what we are all about in the promotions.

"We've always scored a lot of goals. It's dried up a bit since coming to the football league but I do think we're on the front foot and we try and be aggressive with attacking intent."

On whether Gainsborough surprised him: "No, I think they're a good team. They've probably surprised a lot of opposition in the FA Cup run. It's been a phenomenal run.

"You could see they could sniff at 1-0, hang on a minute, we're still in this. Then it's all about decision-making and under stress, people get a little bit uptight. We did, there's no denying that in the last 15 minutes. But just pleased to hear the final whistle."

Harrogate Town's Stephen Duke McKenna speaking to BBC Two: "I always think to get at them [the defenders] to test them a bit and then I know I've got them all game then.

"I've obviously played in this league before and I just believe in myself so I just go for it every match really."

On whether Gainsborough gave them a more difficult game than they expected: "They done themselves proud. They came here and went for it themselves. But final score, we've done what our manager told us and got the win."

On what the manager said at half-time: "To just keep going. We were doing well, we will get that goal. Just make sure we stay solid and keep doing the things we do in training day in, day out."

There's two stories to this:

Harrogate played well tonight and it was a job well done but Gainsborough Trinity - they were the story tonight, they way that they defended.

It looked like Harrogate could have been out of sight at half-time but Gainsborough came out and stayed in the game, even after the goal and they've given an unbelievably good account of themselves.

Their attitude and their application was a credit to Russ Wilcox. He will be so pleased with what his team have given him tonight.

But it's Harrogate who go into that big third-round draw and hope that they get one of the big boys.

Gainsborough Trinity's players are receiving a standing ovation from the visiting fans and they deserve it. What an effort it has been to make it this far.

Huge credit goes to the visitors from the seventh tier but it's the League Two side that will be in the hat.

Harrogate are less than two minutes away from reaching the FA Cup third round for just the second time in their history.

Ashley Jackson sends in a long throw but Harrogate are able to clear. Is there still time to save it for Gainsborough?

Gainsborough shovel it forwards and it comes to Declan Howe who hits it against the defender and wins a throw deep inside the Harrogate half...

The main thing for Harrogate Town in front of the TV cameras on BBC Two and a nationwide audience wanting a cup upset is to just get through.

A moment of relief for Harrogate as they win a free-kick midway inside their own half which just allows them to run down the clock a little.

This is probably the best spell of the game so far in terms of territory for Gainsborough as they search for a leveller.

They're playing with urgency and Harrogate are sinking deeper.
