Newport County earned their first away point of the 2026-27 League Two campaign with a goalless draw at Accrington Stanley.
The Reds had two early chances to take the lead through Tyler Walton and Charlie Caton, both of which Jordan Wright saved, before County had half-chances of their own.
And while Newport also came close to scoring either side of half-time through Matty Jacob and Christian Doidge, this was a match that lacked final-third quality.
As a result, both Accrington Stanley and Newport await their second league victory of the season and are tied on six points toward the bottom of the table.
The hosts got the better of the early stages, and Newport had goalkeeper Wright to thank for keeping the score level with an important double save to deny Walton and Caton.
After a slow start, County came alive following their first effort on goal midway through the first half.
Kieron Evans had an edge-of-the-box effort deflected over the crossbar, Lee Jenkins saw his header blocked from a set-piece, and loanee Jacob's driven shot was saved by Louie Moulden.
Newport maintained that pressure after the restart, and ought to have taken the lead when Doidge met Cameron Norman's set-piece delivery, only to send his header over the bar from close range.
That transpired to be the last genuine chance in a game which lacked final-third quality as it wore on, though the result means Accrington Stanley have kept their first clean sheet since April.
Newport's top goalscorer Shaquille Gwengwe, who received his first Malawi call-up during the week, remained on the bench until the 86th minute and will now miss the Exiles' upcoming games while away on international duty.
'We lacked quality' - Reaction
Accrington Stanley boss John Doolan told BBC Radio Lancashire:
"First of all, I'm pleased with the clean sheet - that's probably the one thing you can take out of this game.
"I thought we controlled things in the first half, and we should have been ahead with the chances that we had. We lacked quality.
"In the second half, it was the same. We didn't move the ball quickly enough. That is something that we have to improve on."
Doolan: 'We lacked quality'
Newport County manager Hayden Mullins told BBC Sport Wales:
"I think [a draw] is a fair reflection, really. I don't remember us having a big, big chance.
"The one at the end where Matty Jacob strikes it and it comes off the keeper, on another day, with a little bit more luck, that drops to us and we can finish.
"We looked assured today. We looked like a strong team, but we lacked that little bit of creativity in the final moment.
"It's important not to drop a point, and we will take the away point."
