Bangor and Dungannon Swifts were unable to be separated as they played out a scrappy 0-0 draw at Clandeboye Park.

The hosts went closest in the first half when Steven McCullough hit the crossbar from yards out after good work from Ben Arthurs.

Chances were hard to come by after the break, with Tiarnan Kelly coming closest for the Swifts before seeing his volley tipped over the crossbar.

The home side end a three-match losing run in the league, while the Swifts remain winless in their last six league outings.

Bangor's losing run ends in goalless stalemate

Having weathered an early storm, the Seasiders should have gone ahead on the half-hour mark when Arthurs squared for McCullough yards out, only for the defender to rattle the crossbar with the goal gaping.

Dungannon almost made the hosts pay for that miss just minutes later when Leo Alves drifted in from the right wing, only to see his curling strike go wide of Patrick Solis Grogan's far post.

McCullough almost atoned for hitting the woodwork with a venomous strike destined for the top-right corner, but Declan Dunne produced a brilliant save to tip it behind.

The game tightened up considerably following the restart, until Arthurs, under pressure from the Dungannon defence, could only guide Iestyn Hughes' delivery over the crossbar from eight yards out in the 70th minute.

The away side crafted their best opening of the second period just moments later when Kelly ran onto Uzokwe's cushioned header, only to see his well-struck half-volley brilliantly turned over the woodwork by an alert Solis Grogan.

What the managers said

Bangor assistant manager John Douglas: "I thought it was a very close game and could have gone either way in the second half. In the first half, we had the better of the chances against an extremely good Dungannon side and maybe should have come in a goal up at half-time, but they put us under a lot of pressure in the second half and probably shaded it.

"Steven McCullough will know himself he should have scored, it was probably a lapse in concentration, but Declan Dunne made a smashing save from his second effort and the main bonus was keeping a clean sheet."

Dungannon assistant manager Dixie Robinson: "I thought it was quite an even game to be fair, with a few chances at either end and neither team capitalised on that. Declan Dunne made a really good save in the first half when Bangor hit the crossbar and we had a couple of chances down the other end as well, but nobody found that touch to get the three points.

"We had the bulk of possession, but in the final third we just didn't capitalise, which has been the story of a lot of our season. It was very important to keep a clean sheet and shore it up at the back, restricting Bangor to very few opportunities. It breaks a bit of a losing run, and Clandeboye Park is always a tough place to come, so we're more than happy to go up the road with a point."
