France v Senegal (Tues, 20:00 BST)

I'm at the MetLife Stadium - rebranded the New Jersey New York Stadium for this tournament - where France boss Didier Deschamps is due to hold a news conference within the next half an hour.

Les Bleus launch their World Cup campaign on Tuesday against Senegal - who are being tipped to go deep in North America.

Deschamps is in the final weeks of his role, which he has held since 2012, after announcing he will step down after the tournament.

He has steered France to three European Championship/World Cup finals - Euro 2016 (runners-up), 2018 World Cup (champions) and the 2022 World Cup (runners-up).

Will Deschamps bow out in style by putting France at the top of the world again?

  3. How worried should Scotland be about Morocco?published at 15:53 BST

After 30 minutes of their World Cup opener against five-time champions Brazil, Morocco looked a class apart.

The Afcon finalists - and disputed winners - moved the ball about with confidence, dominated possession and deservedly led after Ismael Saibari raced onto a defence-splitting pass from Brahim Diaz and lofted a delightful finish over Alisson Becker.

Bedraggled Brazil were indebted to a piece of magic from Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr hauling them level before half-time.

Scotland supporters watching on would have understandably been concerned.

This was before Steve Clarke's side had beat Haiti 1-0, but even so, Scotland will likely need to draw against either Morocco - the sides meet in Boston on Friday night - or Brazil to ensure they get out of Group C. At the very least, they need to avoid heavy defeats.

Four years ago, Morocco were the World Cup's surprise package as they beat Belgium, Spain and Portugal on their way to the semi-finals, where they lost 2-0 to France.

Since then, their squad has evolved and kicked on to further success.

Under new head coach Mohamed Ouahbi - appointed just before this World Cup after success with the country's youth teams - Morocco hope to play a more fluid, front-foot style, led by a new generation of talent.

"It's not about me, it's about the team. It's need to get credit, but it's also easy to be called rubbish when you've not had a great game."

"I wasn't nervous, we trained very well so for me, the only time there was nerves was the national anthem. That wasn't nerves about playing, that was butterflies."

Winning ugly was a theme in Scotland's qualification journey. The "jobby performances" - John McGinn's words - in beating Greece and Belarus hardly set the pulses racing, but Scotland got what they needed from those games.

They will have to improve against Morocco and Brazil, of course they will. Those sides will not be as erratic as Haiti if they get the same sort of opportunities in the final third.

But the platform is there now. The nightmare scenario of a potentially fatal blow in game one has been avoided and Scotland are up and running.

Clarke will be hoping his big players can show a bit more of their class than we saw in Boston, but he will take precious points in Group C in whatever form they come.

  15. Bank holiday in Scotland as fans celebrate winning return to World Cuppublished at 15:31 BST

And the party has continued at home ...

Tens of thousands of Scotland fans have the day off as the nation celebrates a winning return to the World Cup stage after almost three decades.

The first match against Haiti - where the men's team secured a crucial 1-0 victory - finished at 04:00 BST on Sunday.

The Scottish government designated today as a national bank holiday.

There is no law requiring businesses to close on bank holidays so it has been left to firms to decide if their staff should have the day off.

Just five of Scotland's 32 councils are giving the public holiday. All schools and council services in Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, Renfrewshire and South Lanarkshire are closed.

About 16,650 people who work for the Scottish government have the day off, and it's also a holiday for all Scotland's health boards.

In total, 237,200 public sector workers are entitled to take the holiday - 74,000 council workers and 163,200 NHS workers.
