Sergio Ramos scored twice on his St Mirren debut

Premier Sports Cup holders St Mirren started their defence with a comfortable 4-0 victory over League Two side Dumbarton.

Midfielder Samuel Ramos, on his St Mirren debut, opened the scoring when he turned home newly appointed captain Marcus Fraser's ball at the near post.

Fellow debutant Chris Mochrie, the former Airdrieonians midfielder, doubled the Buddies' advantage by robbing Dumbarton's trialist goalkeeper inside his six-yard box and coolly slotting home.

Ramos added a second when he latched on to a loose ball in the box after the Dumbarton goalkeeper parried Jalmaro Calvin's cross back out into his penalty area.

Thomas Falconer, who spent last season on loan at Dumbarton, added a fourth minutes later when he chipped the goalkeeper from close range.

The victory puts Craig McLeish's side top of Group A, joint on points with East Kilbride, who defeated Dunfermline Athletic.
