After Arley Kay flashed a header across the face of goal for the Tykes before Luke Alker stung the palms of Shamal George in the Ravens goal from distance.

Nearly 15 minutes gone and League Two is a goalless wilderness...

Bright start at Oakwell with both sides winning corners in the opening exchanges and Arley Kay going close for the Reds while Ben Thompson has done likewise for the visitors.

Wycombe have taken the lead against Blackpool, with Fred Onyedinma finding the back of the net.

Elsewhere, AFC Wimbledon are behind at Huddersfield after a goal from Derensili Sanches Fernandes.

Barnet thought they had an early goal, with Tom Knowles putting it in the back of the net, but the referee consults with his assistant and between them they rule it out for offside.

Argyle on the front foot early on and Hatters keeper Ollie Whatmuff has to tip a first-time Matty Sorinola cross over his bar the near post.

The subsequent corner is swung in by Harvey White but Mathias Ross can't convert at the back stick.

• After remaining unbeaten across their first five opening EFL fixtures (W3 D2), Salford have lost their past two in a row.
• The past 10 Shrewsbury fixtures on the opening day have produced just seven goals in total (W3 D3 L4 - 3 goals for, 4 goals against).
• After winning each of their eight EFL openers between 2014 and 2021, Swindon are winless across their past four (D2 L2).

While players get to enjoy a few weeks off over the summer, the hard work's not stopped for others at football clubs up and down the EFL.

And a summer consisting of five heatwaves has been a nightmare for one set of workers - the grounds staff.

BBC Newsbeat went to Gillingham's training ground ahead of their League Two opener against Walsall to chat with head groundsman Haydn Lawrance.

"It's not been ideal no, it gets to a point where, at 38 degrees, there's only so much we can do," he says.

"We are out here all day, sometimes 12 to 13 hours a day."

The 29-year-old says they usually get in at 07:30 BST but have been turning up two hours earlier during this summer.

"Just to get the moisture down before the sun's up," he says.

"When you're watering when the sun's up it's evaporating quicker than it's getting into the ground so you're not actually doing anything beneficial."

So do the players ever try and blame Haydn's pitches for bad performances?

"They tend to try, [but] we give as good as we get," he says.

"If a player starts giving me lip about how the pitch performed, I will tell them to look at their own review of the game.

"And say: 'Listen mate no-one's perfect so you might want to sort yourself out before you come to me about it'."
