Charlton Athletic sign midfielder Chalobah

Charlton Athletic have signed experienced midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old has been training with the Addicks this summer after his release as one of eight players from Sheffield Wednesday following their relegation to League One.

He made 31 appearances for the Owls across the past two seasons as part of a 14-year-career that has included over 270 appearances for Watford, Fulham, West Bromwich Albion and Torino in Serie A.

Chalobah, who becomes the Addicks' sixth summer signing, also earned international recognition with England at both youth and senior level.

He told the club website, external: "I've been training for a while now with the boys and it's a good group of lads. I'm just glad the season's about to start and we can get down to business.

"I'm looking to bring my experience not only to the young players, but to everyone in the building really to see if we can achieve something together."

Charlton boss Nathan Jones added: "He has a wealth of experience at Championship level and higher and comes with real, real pedigree.

"We want to evolve so we need to add certain things and he brings quality, real technical ability and experience that will only help the team and a lot of our younger players."
