Wrexham's Windass to miss Leeds fixture

Josh Windass will miss Wrexham's pre-season friendly with Leeds United due to a calf injury.

The 32-year-old did not feature in either of the Red Dragons' summer matches against Wisla Krakow or Manchester United but is part of the 28-man squad that travelled to the United States of America.

But boss Phil Parkinson has confirmed Windass will not feature in his side's fixture against the Premier League Whites at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on Sunday (00:30 BST) after suffering a setback.

"He's had a setback with his calf injury, which is a shame for Josh but that is part and parcel of football," said Parkinson who confirmed the rest of the squad was fit.

Windass was top-scorer in his first campaign at Wrexham last season with 17 goals, including seven in his last eight appearances in the Championship.

Wrexham have enjoyed a positive start to a tough pre-season schedule.

They held Polish giants Wisla Krakow to a goalless draw before beating Manchester United 1-0 courtesy of Sam Smith's first half goal in Helsinki.

And Parkinson hopes his side can take the positives from their triumph over the Red Devils into their fixture with Daniel Farke's side.

"It's difficult to fully predict the personnel and the shape of the [Leeds] team, but it's more about our development and progression as a team," added the Wrexham manager.

"It's very much the same approach – we will respect and look at Leeds' strengths but we want to make sure we take the positives from the United game and look to replicate that."

Wrexham's second game in the US is against Liverpool at New York's iconic Yankee Stadium on Thursday, 30 July (00:30 BST).

They round off the tour against Parkinson's former club Sunderland at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania - the home state of Wrexham co-owner Rob Mac - on Sunday, 2 August (17:00 BST).

Despite previously touring the US in addition to travelling to Australia and New Zealand in pre-season a year ago, Parkinson says Wrexham will not allow themselves to take their trip to the US for granted.

"It's amazing. We never take it for granted and we feel very privileged to be here," he said of the tour.

"A lot of the players haven't been on a US tour with us, as we changed a lot of them last summer, and it's great to be able to bring them here.

"The facilities we have trained at have been fantastic these last few days, and obviously we're going to another great stadium. Why would you not be looking forward to a day like that?"
