Swans beat Cardiff & Wrexham start title defence with win

Swansea started their season in style as they hammered rivals Cardiff at the ThermaGlaze Ground.

The visitors started strongly and should have taken the lead when Gillian Keenan fired wide from close range.

But Yzzy Taylor's side took the lead against the run of play when Chloe Chivers' free kick bounced in off the crossbar after 16 minutes.

The hosts doubled their advantage just a minute later when Bluebirds defender Shannon Evans bundled one into her own net.

There were chances for both sides, and Noah Bushby's team almost pulled one back early into the second half when Mackenzie Olden's looping cross struck the post.

The impressive Swans put the result beyond any doubt two minutes later when Emily Richards' first-time strike from distance found the bottom corner.

Despite a late consolation from Keenan, the Swans held on to halt a seven-game losing run against the Bluebirds.

Wrexham began the defence of their Adran Premier title with a comfortable win over Aberystwyth Town at The Rock.

Jenny Sugarman's side dominated the first half and Aber keeper Megan Bowen made vital saves to deny Katie Barker and Ava Suckley.

Natasha Thomas' effort struck the post and Maria Francis-Jones fired over the crossbar before the deadlock was finally broken on 32 minutes.

Thomas headed beyond Bowen from a Francis-Jones cross to score her first league goal since joining from Ipswich Town during the summer.

The hosts extended their lead with two quick goals at the start of the second half.

Francis-Jones scored with a sublime strike from just inside the area before Suckley netted from close range two minutes later.

Aber's attacks were few and far between, with Amy Jenkins' speculative effort from distance, which keeper Lucy Farrell gathered, their best effort.

Wrexham completed the scoring with Katie Barker's looping header from Lili Jones' cross finding the net.

Briton Ferry Llansawel began their Adran Premier campaign with an impressive win away to Barry Town United.

Goals from Maia Owen, Jade Crofts and Megan Kearle gave Ferry a commanding 3-0 interval lead at Jenner Park.

A second strike from Crofts after the break sealed the victory before Amy Long pulled a goal back for Barry with a penalty.

Lexi Jones and Fiona Barry scored as The New Saints won 2-0 away at newly promoted Cardiff Met.

Barry provided the assist for Jones, who scored from six yards out with just over 20 minutes remaining at Cyncoed.

Barry then got herself on the scoresheet wth five minutes to go, finding the net from the edge of the area.

Cardiff Met have returned to the Adran Premier after a season's absence after securing promotion with victory in the play-off final against Connah's Quay Nomads.
