Over the past year or so, though, an elbow injury has severely stalled the 23-year-old's progress - so much so that she has fallen outside the world's top 100 and needed to get through three rounds of qualifying just to get into the main draw.

Now she is back in the second week of a Grand Slam and a win today will match her previous best run at the US Open. She reached the quarter-finals in 2023 and 2024.

China's Zheng Qinwen came through an incredible third-round match against Madison Keys to make it into the last 16 at the US Open.

Zheng was 5-0 down in the deciding set but reeled off seven games in a row to secure a spot in round four.

The reigning Olympic singles champion is currently outside the world's top 100 because of a long-term elbow injury which required surgery.

"Finally, a bit of luck is on my side," the 23-year-old said. "Tennis sometimes feels like a rollercoaster. You see many times people have a match point, but at the end we made a comeback."

It's day nine of the 2026 US Open and by the end of today's play, the quarter-finals in the men's and women's singles draws should be complete.

The first match we'll be following is Iga Swiatek's fourth-round contest against Zheng Qinwen, who produced an astonishing fightback against Madison Keys in round three.
