So it's as you were in the title race with just five points covering the top three of Somerset, Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire.

Today's headlines, though, belong to Durham who had to be patient before wrapping up a 93-run win over Middlesex which ensures promotion for the 2027 season as Division Two champions - the latter confirmed by Kent's dramatic late defeat at Derby.

There are just two rounds of matches left now to decide who lifts the Championship trophy, who is relegated, and who goes up with Durham.

As we approach Friday night, it's perhaps appropriate that we quote Katy Perry and say we'll be back on Tuesday at 10:00 to "do it all again".

This has been a remarkable effort by Kent's middle order and tail today - at 38-5 they were nailed on to be beaten long before now but they have remained obdurate as a collective since.

Shoaib Bashir bowls to Hasan Mahmud, who has soaked up 28 deliveries so far, and he clips to leg gully where the helmeted Ben Aitchison awaits - but he spills an admittedly tricky opportunity.

Kent - and Bertie Foreman - take a couple more from the over of Ben Aitchison, who was coming round the wicket to the left-hander.

Bertie Foreman takes up four Brett Randell deliveries and then takes a single - when there were at least two runs on - to leave Hasan Mahmud with a ball to survive, which he does.

In attempting to prevent the run, though, Luis Reece - who hurt his right arm earlier today - seems to have aggravated the issue. He cannot continue and takes his leave from the field.

There are 12 overs remaining.

That is exceedingly well managed by Bertie Foreman.

He leaves well and produces another defensive answer to Ben Aitchison's questioning before he nicks a single off the final ball of the over to retain the strike.

Now on 34, he is playing with a real maturity - do not forget this is only his fourth first-class match.

Foreman has to fend away into the leg side a couple of particularly sharp deliveries onto the shoulder of his bat from Randell, who then beats the outside edge with a tempter.

Foreman leaves Mahmud with a single ball to survive, which he does, so the set batter takes strike again.

Just a couple of runs to Bertie Foreman from that most recent over from Ben Aitchison.

Perhaps Foreman has been heartened by the stance of tail-end partner Hasan Mahmud at the other end, for he has left him on strike for the over again.

What a difference a season makes.

Less than a year after a batting collapse against Yorkshire confirmed Durham's relegation to Division Two, the north-east county have dominated the second division.

Head coach Ryan Campbell has been frank about the tough conversations behind closed doors ahead of an impressive revival.

He told BBC Sport: "Twelve months is a long time in cricket, a long time in sport. We sat there after that game at Yorkshire obviously extremely disappointed to be relegated by one point.

"We worked through a few issues, had heated debates about a few things and the players took on board what we wanted to change and how we wanted to do things. So we're really grateful to be back here."
