As a Kent fan I was fully expecting another wasted season after the first game of the 2026, but it turns out all we needed to do was turn off social media comments and now we're pretty much unstoppable...

    Liam, Canterbury

4 wins in 5 matches. Pinch me I must be dreaming.

    Richard Batchelor, Kent

It's a good time to move second Kent fans, as you can now see your team in the promotion places for the next two months!

Durham are looking good for a return to the top flight of County Cricket with that brilliant run chase against Northamptonshire.

Kent slip into second place but at the bottom it is looking grim for Gloucestershire who have lost seven of their eight matches, while Lancashire's woes continue with that loss at Derbyshire.

It is all change at the top where the defending champions Nottinghamshire are back out front with previous leaders, Essex dropping all the way down to sixth place.

Somerset and Warwickshire drew at Taunton to move up to second and third respectively.

Wins for Leicestershire and Hampshire have given them hope of avoiding the drop.

  5. Durham time their run perfectlypublished at 17:56 BST 22 June

    Durham (405 & 296-4) beat Northants (450 & 250) by six wickets

David Bedingham’s unbeaten 109 was the key - how Calvin Harrison will rue the overstep which saw him let off when he holed out in the deep.

But Colin Ackermann played his part too. Talk about seizing the moment - he only joined the match halfway through.

Northants were in the contest all the way - and favourites for much of the game - until the Durham duo dragged the match away from them with one of the partnerships of the season.

    Durham 405 & 296-4 v Northants 450 & 250

What a chase that has been by Durham.

A magnificent unbeaten partnership of 189 between centurion David Bedingham and Ben Stokes’s stand-in Colin Ackermann (65) sees them home.

So Durham stretch their lead at the top of Division Two as the County Championship shuts down for a couple of months.

Northants will wonder how that one got away from 302-3 on the first day but if they started well, Durham finished the stronger on day four.

Liam Patterson-White walks off with the ball raised in his left hand after taking six wickets against EssexImage source, Shutterstock

It was hot work on all four days for the bowlers but quite a few had big impacts on their repsective matches.

Liam Patterson-White took a career-best 6-43 for Notts in the Essex first innings to help set-up a win for the reigning champions at Chelmsford. The left-arm spinner added three more victims in the second innings.

You do wonder where Hampshire would be without Kyle Abbott as he took 9-55 in their victory over Sussex.

Youngster Tom Norton ripped through Surrey's first innings with 5-50 to help Glamorgan to a win at Cardiff, to back up his performance of a hat-trick against Somerset last month.

Derbyshire's Ben Aitchison finished with match figures of 7-69 with a five-fer in the second innings having clubbed 75 with the bat against Lancashire to wrap-up a huge win at Chesterfield.

Colin Ackermann dispatches a weary Ben Sanderson for six over his head and Durham are within eight of victory.

It looks like Ackermann, and especially David Bedingham's efforts, have come too late to make our team of the week!

At 79-6 on day one, Glamorgan were in big bother. But Chris Cooke and Mason Crane came together for a partnership that changed the game.

Crane made his maiden first-class century while Cooke scored 101 as they put on 165 and turned the match in the Welsh county's favour.

He then took seven catches across the two innings as Surrey were made to follow on before Glamorgan successfully chased 195 today.

A well-deserved half century from Colin Ackermann off 122 balls.

He has been a great foil for Bedingham in a partnership now worth 175.

Only 14 needed now - Durham sprinting to the finish line.

Rehan Ahmed only took two wickets and bowled less than 10 overs of leg-spin in the match but his attacking 128, batting at number three set the tempo for Leicestershire's powerful 453.

He had a brilliant partnership with New Zealander Nick Kelly and was part of a fine all-round Foxes performance that delivered a deserved first Championship win of the season.

  14. Super-sub playing key rolepublished at 17:39 BST 22 June

    Durham 271-4 v Northants - target 296

You have to take your hat off to Colin Ackermann.

Called in for Ben Stokes mid-match, he has played a valuable supporting role to David Bedingham.

He's unbeaten on 48 off 120 balls for Durham with the target now 25.

Nottinghamshire sit on top of Division One heading into the summer recess and Jack Haynes' stylish 137 not out helped grind Essex into the dirt, sandwiched in between two fine bowling efforts.

Max Holden ended up on the losing side at Canterbury but he hit a superb 182 in Middlesex's first innings which rescued them from 47-4 and 159-6, but ultimately it was in vain after Kent's fnal day bowling heroics.

A first Leicestershire century in only his third game for New Zealand batter Nick Kelly, as he scored 121 in the Foxes' first Division One win since 2003 as they thrashed Yorkshire.

What a contribution this has been from the 32-year-old.

Plodding at first as Durham rebuilt, he has cut loose as the victory target has come into sight.

He has paced this beautifully with two sixes and seven fours in his 150-ball innings.

It is his 20th century for Durham.

Durham now just need 32 runs - and have this game in their hands.

Northants' Ricardo Vasconcelos takes his place in the team of the week thanks to a magnificent 187 in his side's first innings against Durham.

His innings stole the headlines from Ben Stokes at Chester-le-Street as he ended day one unbeaten. It was a third century of the season for Vasconcelos who is sixth in the Division Two batting rankings.

He is joined at the crease by Notts skipper Haseeb Hameed who helped his side to come back from a first defeat of the season last week to secure an innings win over Essex at Chelmsford.

Hameed struck 89 to help ensure Notts would only have to bat once to get the better of the hosts and go top of the table.

The Pears move up to sixth - above Lancashire - and reignite their season with a first red-ball success since April.

As for Gloucestershire, they suffer a seventh loss in eight games and are 43 points adrift.
