We're going to wrap this up pretty quickly here as South Africa v Australia get going shortly - join us live from 14:15 for that one, which promises to be a cracker of a game.

Alex Hartley has said since the beginning that she sees Scotland as dark horses in this tournament and that they could cause a few shock results, and they have shown what they are capable of today.

Most of their players are playing regularly in domestic cricket, and the effects of that are showing. They were clinical in all aspects of the game and the gap that has grown between them and Ireland was evident as a result.

What a game for Scotland, what a performance. We knew they were the stronger team coming in, they have girls that play domestically here. Unfortunately for Ireland, they just looked shy. They haven't played enough cricket and weren't aggressive enough with the bat.

    A thrashing!

Absolute joy for Scotland as they start their T20 World Cup campaign with a dominant performance.

Fittingly, the captain Kathryn Bryce takes the final wicket as Aimee Maguire is caught on the boundary and Ireland are bowled out for 121 with five balls remaining.

  5. Ire 121-9published at 19 overs

Shot! Ava Canning whacks one down the ground for four, as Ireland's last hope now is to get through their 20 overs without being bowled out.

Kathryn Bryce will close out the innings for Scotland with a very unlikely 41 needed from the final over.

That run out shows the difference in intensity these sides have played at. Prendergast should have known she had to go for 2 there. Given how fast she is, she'd have made it too. They'll be so disappointed with how they've played.

She's tried to pat it back. Now Ireland are just trying to boost the net run-rate.

    Murray c & b Fraser 0 (Ire 113-9)

Oh dear. This has all come to a very limp end.

Chipped straight back to the bowler by Cara Murray and Scotland are one wicket away. Katherine Fraser backs up Kirstie Gordon with another brilliant bowling performance as she finishes with 3-19.

  9. wicket

Kelly run out (Bryce) 15 (Ire 112-8)

Another poor run out. Scotland close in on a big win.

The ball ricochets off the bowler's foot and again the batters call for two, but Kathryn Bryce swoops from long-on and gets the throw in quickly.

Ireland have really fallen apart here.

Ireland's hopes were already very faint after that three-wicket over from Kirstie Gordon but the wicket of Orla Prendergast has confirmed it.

Kelly was always going to go for two. It's something Scotland did extremely well. Ireland have faced far too many dots this innings and haven't ran as many twos.

That was dreadful running from Prendergast.

That will be the end of Ireland's hopes.

  13. wicket

Prendergast run out (Cater) 33 (Ire 108-7)

But her fun comes to an end, and it's a soft run out.

There was never two there as Prendergast clubbed the ball down the ground and for some reason tried to get back despite the ball already being in Darcey Carter's hands.

The fielder makes no mistake, fizzing the ball into Sarah Bryce and Prendergast has to go, despite a full-length dive.

Despite Ireland's woes, it is a delight to watch Orla Prendergast bat. She has proper flair, as she whacks a short ball from Rachel Slater over the ropes for six!

She holds the pose as well, and why not. Great shot.

My prediction for this World Cup is that Ireland won't win a game. Again.

  16. Ire 96-6published at 16 overs

    Target 162

Good aggression from Arlene Kelly, who carves two boundaries through the off side off Priyanaz Chatterji's first over.

Ireland are miles behind the game but need to keep getting as many runs on the board as possible because we have seen how crucial net run-rate can be in these tournaments.

I think Ireland were on a hiding to nothing against Scotland but there's no reason to despair. Most of the Scottish are full-time professionals in Tier 1 and are fully capable of knocking on the door of qualifying.

    Take a bow, Kirstie Gordon.

She finishes with 3-16 despite another boundary to Prendergast in that over.

  20. Ire 77-6published at 14.1 overs

    Oh, and it's a beauty!

It's ripped past Orla Prendergast's off stump and Gordon squeals in anguish, in complete disbelief that it's somehow missed.
