Player of the match Arafat Minhas, who made 59 and took 6-40, speaking at the presentation: "I kept my plans simple. There was not much help for the spinners in the first ODI. The pitch was on the slower side today, which helped me.

"I think variations are very important for a spinner as they help in deceiving the opposition batters. I have worked on my variations. We needed an important partnership when I walked in the middle.

"Hasan [Nawaz] and I discussed that we need to bat deep. I took the charge after Hasan got out and I tried to bat until the end of the innings, which helped in taking the score beyond 300."

  3. 'Want to build this team'published at 16:56 BST

Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi: "Yes [I am happy with the batting performance]. It was really good, the way Hasan Nawaz and Arafat Minhas came in. It's a good sign for us but we need the top [order] to make a good score and fast.

"As a team we played some good things but we need to improve more because we are preparing for the World Cup. We want to build this team and the way the fast bowlers bowled was a good sign for us. We used some bouncers and some thoughts."

On Arafat Minhas' impact: "He's a very good talent. He's not just a bowler but a proper all-rounder. The way he started his innings with the bat and bowled is good for us, for Pakistan team and hopefully do it again in the future."

  4. 'We couldn't string the partnerships together'published at 16:54 BST

England captain Harry Brook: "We were quite happy with 300. We thought they were slightly under par. It got dewy as we thought it would do. We were pretty happy at halfway."

On not pushing on after a strong opening partnership: "That was the story of the innings. We thought [Tom] Banton, Ducky [Ben Duckett] set the tone to get a 100 partnership and then it was a case of losing too many wickets in clumps, we couldn't string the partnerships together and we ended up on the wrong side."

On where they look to do better next time: "You always want to win, don't you? We've spoken a lot about rotation of strike through the middle but I think we were a little too careful against the spinners especially, so we can probably put them under a little bit more pressure in stages and we've got to tonight to talk about it and tomorrow and bounce back better on Thursday."

England had Pakistan 81-4 and 133-5, but Hasan Nawaz's 79 and Arafat Minhas' half-century dragged the hosts up past 300.

Jamie Overton was the pick of England's bowlers with a miserly spell of 1-38 before the batters came undone against spin in the chase.

We'll get the thoughts of England skipper Harry Brook shortly.

  6. How things standpublished at 16:44 BST

This match, remember, is part of a tri-series also including Sri Lanka, who were beaten by the hosts in their opening game on Sunday.

Each team plays the other twice with the top two in the standings playing a final in Lahore on 31 October.

I think England would've been wise to watch the match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka a few days ago because it was the surprise short balls that got people into trouble.

It's a missed opportunity because they had Pakistan on the ropes at 81-4 in the 19th over when Salman Ali Agha, who scored that brilliant hundred the other day, was out and then consecutive fifty plus partnerships turned the screw on England.

This game may have come to an end but the Test match continues between South Africa and Australia, where Temba Bavuma's brilliant innings has come to an end.

The South Africa captain was on 179 when a thin inside edge off Australia left-arm quick Mitchell Starc was snaffled by wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

Bavuma's knock rescued South Africa from a precarious 110-6 and the fall of his wicket prompted the Proteas skipper to declare on 425-9.

Australia are facing a few tricky overs before the close on day three at St George's Park in Gqeberha.

In fact they have just lost opener Nic Maddinson, who has fallen for a duck after nicking the fourth delivery of the innings from Kagiso Rabada.

    Scorecard...

  9. Postpublished at 16:30 BST

It was a very easy decision for player of the match, at least.

Arafat Minhas ripped through England with 6-40, and scored a crucial 59 to rescue Pakistan's innings earlier in the day. England gifted him a few wickets but the ripper to bowl Harry Brook was the highlight.

After beating Sri Lanka in the opener, Pakistan go two from two in the tri-series.

Chasing 303, England started brilliantly as Tom Banton and Ben Duckett raced to 91-0 inside the first 15 overs.

From there, they slumped to 215 all out in 38.4. Banton made 57 and Duckett 45, with Root's 33 the only other contribution of note.

What a comical way to end the innings for England. They were like the Chuckle Brothers out there in the middle.

England have fallen in a heap after an exceptional opening partnership. Being bowled out for 215 is below par.

  12. PAKISTAN WIN BY 87 RUNSpublished at 16:21 BST
    Breaking

A chaotic run out to end the innings, and Pakistan take a convincing win.

Sonny Baker nudges the ball to mid-wicket, and the pair take a single before Gus Atkinson sets off for the second and both batters somehow end up at the non-striker's end.

Arafat fumbles when the ball is thrown back to him, but he has so much time to get it back to the keeper and Atkinson's dive is in vain.

    He reviews but rather unconvincingly.

What a game Arafat is having. He was brilliant with the bat and helped his team get over 300.

He now has the key wicket of Will Jacks. It's a well deserved five-for. He has bowled very well today.

Arafat has his five-wicket haul and Pakistan edge closer to victory.

There is no match-winning knock for Will Jacks today as he also throws it away, pulling straight to Shaheen at mid-wicket just like Tom Banton did.

That's Arafat's second five-for in his fifth ODI.

Pakistan managed to get to 300 but for a long time they didn't look like they would. That's the importance of keeping wickets in hand and England only have three left now.
