So the penultimate day of County Championship before the midsummer break is done and it has been played out in suitably glorious sunshine on the longest day of the year.

Plenty failed to make it a full one with Notts finishing off Essex and Leics hammering Yorks by an innings at Chelmsford and Grace Road, respectively.

Hants made short work of Sussex in the south coast derby and in Division Two Derbys walloped Lancs.

But there were full day's graft for the others and the promise of more of the same tomorrow as teams try to go into a near two-month break off the back of a win.

Assuming the weather holds there is plenty to play for, plenty to follow and it will all be here from 10:45 BST.

  2. Scores at close of play on day threepublished at 18:54 BST 21 June

    Division One

    • Essex 184 & 221 v Notts 457 - Notts win by an innings and 52 runs
    • Glamorgan 358 v Surrey 105 & 398-9 - Surrey lead by 145 runs
    • Leics 453 v Yorkshire 185 & 229 - Leics win by an innings and 39 runs
    • Somerset 208 & 341-6 v Warks 330 - Somerset lead by 219 runs
    • Sussex 159 & 134 v Hampshire 191 & 220 - Hampshire win by 118 runs

    Division Two

    • Derbyshire 364 & 25-1 v Lancs 161 & 226 - Derbys win by nine wickets
    • Durham 405 v Northants 450 & 200-6 - Northants lead by 245 runs
    • Kent 416 & 233-7 v Middlesex 443 - Kent lead Middlesex by 206 runs
    • Worcs 388 v Glos 289 & 59-1 - Glos trail by 40 runs
  3. Close of play at Canterburypublished at 18:50 BST 21 June

    Kent 416 & 233-7 v Middlesex 443

Zafar Gohar has the honour of the final over of day three.

Keith Dudgeon is solid in defence before taking a single into the legside and that's stumps.

A dynamic final session at the St Lawrence Ground ends with Kent 206 in front with three wickets intact.

They added 153 runs for the loss of Daniel Bell-Drummond (60), Chris Benjamin (16), Grant Stewart (8) and Ekansh Singh (46) as Middlesex chipped away.

Middlesex will be the happier for now, but another 50 runs or so could set up a nervy chase. Plenty to tune in for tomorrow.

  4. Postpublished at 18:47 BST 21 June

    Kent 416 & 232-7 v Middlesex 443

Matt Milnes is on the back foot and clips nicely through the offside for four to eke out a few more precious runs.

Tom Helm keeps sending down the short stuff in his final over of the day, but Milnes sensibly has nothing to do with it.

    Six balls to come.

  5. Close of play at Sophia Gardenspublished at 18:41 BST 21 June

    Glamorgan 358 v Surrey 105 & 398-9 - Surrey lead by 145 runs

Ben Kellaway gets through his 26th and final over of day three here at Sophia Gardens.

It has been a day of positives and negatives for Surrey, captain Rory Burns achieved his century amassing a total of 115 from 258 balls. Meanwhile, Sam Curran had another day to forget with just a solitary run in his second innings bringing his total to one for the match.

The final pairing of Jordan Clark (22*) and Tom Lawes (31*) have done their job increasing the lead one ball at a time to creep their advantage up to 145.

Glamorgan will be pleased with how today has gone but this could be an exciting game on day four if Surrey can hold on to this partnership through the morning and make that target a little more daunting.

  6. Kent lead reaches 200published at 18:40 BST 21 June

    Kent 416 & 227-7 v Middlesex 443

This game is really bubbling up nicely on the longest day, with both sides still in the hunt for the win.

You feel Middlesex will be the happier after snaring Ekansh Singh late in the day.

Matt Milnes is up on his toes to nudge down a lifting ball from Tom Helm into the legside for a single.

It takes Kent to the milestone of a 200-run lead. Three overs to go, folks.

  7. Close of play at Tauntonpublished at 18:33 BST 21 June

    Somerset 208 & 341-6 v Warks 330

Loud applause and plenty of cheers as Craig Overton and Thomas Rew make for the pavilion - for real this time.

Another fantastic session for Somerset as Rew (133) and Overton (89) have batted through unscathed to take their mammoth partnership to 193 and the lead to 219.

They have played the situation superbly, mixing up aggression with sensible batting to stifle the Bears attack.

Neither batter has really coughed up a chance, and Rew has been particularly impressive.

Belying his lack of experience at this level he has chalked up a first Championship century at Taunton - the second of a fledgling first-class career - and a new first-class best score.

All results remain possible, but the Bears will really need to wrestle back the initiative tomorrow morning.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:29 BST 21 June

    Singh lbw b Helm 46 (Kent 416 & 220-7 v Middlesex 443)

Big breakthrough late in the day.

Ekansh Singh seems to be caught in two minds to a Tom Helm delivery which keeps a touch low and pins him in front.

The 19-year-old falls four short of a fifth first-class half-century.

The lead is 193 and Middlesex have three wickets to take.

  9. Postpublished at 18:28 BST 21 June

    Somerset 208 & 337-6 v Warks 330

Manav Suthar comes on for a final crack in 'extra time' at Taunton.

Safely played out as Thomas Rew and Craig Overton trade singles.

  10. Postpublished at 18:19 BST 21 June

    Somerset 208 & 332-6 v Warks 330

Confusion all around as the scheduled overs tick down to zero and the players make for the pavilion.

But they're called back by the umpires. We have to play on until 6.30 to make up for lost time yesterday.

That has to mess with your focus. Craig Overton and Thomas Rew will be fuming if they get out in the next 12 minutes.

  11. Postpublished at 18:14 BST 21 June

    Glamorgan 358 v Surrey 105 & 377-9

Surrey are hoping to see out these last six overs, to extend their lead above 124 runs.

You also get the feeling that now we are down to the last six overs Glamorgan will want to start their batting fresh tomorrow morning.

A new ball has been brought out for the final stages.

  12. Close of play at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 18:14 BST 21 June

    Durham 405 v Northants 450 & 200-6 (lead by 245 runs)

That is that and a glorious day at the Riverside concludes with the match very much in the mixer with Northants 245 ahead with four men remaining.

George Bartlett and Justin Broad have done well to make it to stumps having added 36 for the seventh wicket.

But breakthroughs from Matthew Potts, who was a threat with 3-68 and late punches thrown by Callum Parkinson who took 2-53 during a very long spell, ensured Northants could not run away.

Gus Miller, parachuted in for only his seventh first class start after captain Luke Procter was subbed out with a finger injury, batted really well for his 61 while Nathan McSweeney posted an aggressive if chancey 52.

Where this one goes from here depends on how quickly Durham can get rid of the tail and at what cost. Northants will certainly not feel they have enough yet.

Could be a good final day.

Disappointing result for Sussex against Hampshire. Sadly, bowlers did their jobs, batters not.

    David, Hove

My hopes of watching Somerset on my day off tomorrow have been enhanced by Rew & Overton. Thanks lads!

    George, Devon

  14. 200 runs

200 up for Kentpublished at 18:07 BST 21 June

    Kent 416 & 202-6 v Middlesex 443

Ekansh Sharma drives handsomely through extra cover for his sixth boundary to go to 40. And that brings up 200 for Kent.

How many more can they eke out before Middlesex chase?

  15. Somerset lead passes 200published at 18:05 BST 21 June

    Somerset 208 & 323-6 v Warks 330

Dan Mousley bowls onto the pads and Craig Overton turns it around the corner for a single.

That's another valuable milestone is ticked off by this pair as the lead passes the 200 mark.

Three overs left in the day.

Rob Yates to bowl his first of the innings.

  16. Close of play at New Roadpublished at 18:04 BST 21 June

    Worcs 388 v Glos 289 & 59-1

Worcs will be a little frustrated they have not managed to eke out more than one Glos wicket in 31 overs but they have found Cameron Bancroft (37) and Tommy Boorman (16) stubborn opponents.

A lead of 99 at the halfway stage still gives them a healthy match situation but not if they can't keep the wickets column ticking up.

None of the bowlers have been bruised or attacked aside from Brett D'Oliveira whose one over went for eight as Glos have thrown down the anchor.

Beyers Swanepoel with 1-9 from eight overs and Matthew Waite with an even more mean spirited 0-2 from six overs have been the pick.

Glos still trail by 40 runs with nine second innings wickets still in the tank but chances are the draw will be favourite from here with a day to go.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:00 BST 21 June

    Stewart b Sharma 8 (Kent 416 & 193-6 v Middlesex 443)

    Stumps all over the place!

Grant Stewart looks to play positively but it doesn't end well.

A super yorker from Naavya Sharma sends his off stump out of the ground and the middle stump leaning at a very jaunty angle.

Two boundaries and then out. Sharma has 3-19 and looking fiery.

Kent have just four wickets left and lead by 166.

  18. get involved

Get Involved - Praise for centurion Thomas Rewpublished at 17:58 BST 21 June

Re Richard from Somerset, we’d appreciate it if England could not watch what T Rew is up to. We have a title to win & he’s doing what we hoped Banton or Smeed could do

    Chris, Kent

The partnership passes 150 and counting. Thomas Rew is batting like a veteran and with Craig Overton supporting at the other end Somerset will be looking forward to the final day if these two are there at the close.

    Ian, Emerson's Green

Thomas Rew is more than a talent he’s a full on prodigy in my view. Mark my words he will score 10,000 Test runs for England.

    Gus, Oxford

    Big call from Gus there!

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:54 BST 21 June

    Benjamin c Cracknell b Morgan 16 (Kent 416 & 184-5 v Middlesex 443)

Seb Morgan is back on after that lively spell from Naavya Sharma and serves up a wide one which Chris Benjamin thrashes through the offisde.

He's up to 16 and dealing only in boundaries.

    Then he's gone!

Not a great delivery down the legside, but Benjamin gloves it and Joe Cracknell dives to his left to take a brilliant two-handed catch.

The lead is 157 with five wickets intact as Grant Stewart joins the fray.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:50 BST 21 June

    Thomas c Tribe b Hadley 30 (Glamorgan 358 v Surrey 105 & 346-9)

Adam Thomas edges to slip, and it is Asa Tribe who takes the catch for Glamorgan.

Surrey's lead is just 89 with one wicket remaining it is looking very good for for the home side.

Tom Lawes comes out to replace Thomas who goes for 30 from 63 balls.
