    Worcs 265 & 179-7 v Middx 339 & 283-6

Middlesex captain Leus du Plooy brings himself on as they look to get the last three wickets before tea.

His first ball is run down to third for four by Henry Cullen who after his duck in the first innings is now on 15 on his first class debut.

    Northants 465 v Glos 268 & 373-9

Northants fans inside Wantage Road can't be enjoying this.

Way outside off stump by Calvin Harrison and Will Williams puts it away to backward point for four.

The lead is now 176 - and what should have been a comfortable run chase is now looking tricky.

  3. Postpublished at 15:16 BST

Essex 80-1 v Leicestershire (Essex need 135 more runs to win)

Paul Walter (46 not out) is playing really well, looking in good nick.

He has played his shots and driven confidently square of the wicket, but he has respected the good balls, too.

Eighteen overs have been bowled in this fourth innings. The current run rate is 4.44, the required run rate is 3.29.

Agree that Elgar is out of form but Essex have enough form players to see out this total and get a win. We need the momentum given we are playing Notts next!

    Nick, Essex

Really really disappointed by Warwickshire these last 4 days. There has been a real lack of consistency and application which I hope is a one off. Some players need to look at a video of Ian Bell for an idea of application.

    Northants 465 v Glos 268 & 365-9

Far too much width from James Sales, who is cut away for two successive fours by James Bracey.

Lesson not learned. Make that three in a row.

Bracey is now 137 not out.

  6. 50 runs

50 for Sam Hainpublished at 15:11 BST

    Warks 263 & 211-5 v Yorks 469 & 246-6 dec

An admirable rearguard effort from Sam Hain.

His 50 comes off 142 balls.

He and Warwickshire still have a long way to go to save the game with 43 overs left for Yorkshire to prize out the final five wickets.

It's not getting any easier for the batters with Dom Bess increasingly getting turn from the rough patches on the pitch.

  7. Postpublished at 15:11 BST

    Northants 465 v Glos 268 & 355-9

Double change by Northants, with James Sales to bowl the next over.

Gloucestershire lead by 158 - and James Bracey adds another run to that with a single to square leg.

  8. Worcestershire playing for a drawpublished at 15:08 BST

    Worcs 265 & 168-7 v Middx 339 & 283-6

Worcestershire will have had ambitions of pulling off a remarkable victory at lunch but four wickets since then has changed things.

The target of 358 is way off and somehow they have to see off another 46 overs to save the game..

Debutant Henry Cullen and Tom Taylor are digging in and have survived 10 overs so far.

  9. Postpublished at 15:06 BST

    Northants 465 v Glos 268 & 354-9

Change of tack by Northants as leg-spinner Calvin Harrison is given his first over of the day. There are foot marks outside James Bracey's off stump. He'll be targeting those.

Re Gordon,14.41. Probably right not to enforce the follow on. Batting looking very easy at the moment. Looks like JB delayed the declaration for too long, just like at Essex last year!

  11. Glos lead passes 150published at 14:59 BST

    Northants 465 v Glos 258 & 350-9

Gloucestershire's resistance continues at Wantage Road.

James Bracey cover drives Raphy Weatherall superbly for four to push the total up to 350 and improve their lead to 153.

Bracey is 120 not out - last man Will Williams has two.

  12. 200 runs

200 up for Warwickshirepublished at 14:57 BST

    Warks 263 & 200-5 v Yorks 469 & 246-6

Close! Ed Barnard edges one from Matthew Revis high and just evades Adam Lyth at slip.

Meanwhile Sam Hain goes on. He's now faced 128 balls.

  13. 50 runs

50 for Essexpublished at 14:57 BST

Essex 53-1 v Leicestershire (Essex need 162 more runs to win)

We are only 13 overs into the chase on this final day, but Essex have brought up 50 already.

Paul Walter (29 not out) and Tom Westley (13 not out) have scored fluently since Dean Elgar's dismissal early doors.

Tom Scriven is into the attack for Leicestershire.

Re David [14.41], the Spurs/Essex cross overs surprisingly rich, with my most fans of smooth particularly downbeat despite Essex's recent success. But Elgar has been in v poor form, maybe time to drop him.

  15. Postpublished at 14:45 BST

Essex 46-1 v Leicestershire (Essex need 169 more runs to win)

Rehan Ahmed is handed the ball for the ninth over - and immediately makes things interesting.

He spends the over bowling round the wicket to the left-handed Paul Walter and has a couple of lbw appeals knocked back - the second, in particular, was a vociferous shout. The ball kept low and gripped, perhaps turning too much and past leg stump.

A maiden to begin with for Rehan which, considering the first eight overs went for 46, was a welcome stemming of the flow of runs.

Worried about the Essex run chase. Dean Elgar has been in no form this year and gone already. I think we’re the cricket equivalent of Spurs - though Essexy sounds a bit dubious!

David, Whitley Bay (exiled from my birth county)

Re George 14:16. Hmm. As captain you have to balance the benefits of enforcing a follow on with the fact that your bowlers are tired and would welcome a rest plus, if your opponents bat well, you have to score the winning runs batting last on a wearing wicket.

    Craig OvertonImage source, Shutterstock

It's all over at Trent Bridge and Nottinghamshire have lost in the County Championship for the first time in 13 months.

Mohammad Ali tries to hook a short one from Craig Overton but it spoons straight up to Alfie Ogborne at square leg to take a simple catch and Overton ends with a five-for.

An excellent victory for Somerset who have been the better side in every aspect of the game from start to finish.

That is a first home defeat since May 2024 for the defending champions.

Jordan Hermann scored a century in the first innings for Somerset, supported by 50s for Thomas Rew and Archie Vaughan.

Skipper Lewis Gregory did some fine work with the ball to take 4-51 before suffering an injury to be replaced by Jake Ball.

A maiden ton for 18-year-old T Rew was perhaps the headline act in the match, ending unbeaten on 127 when Somerset declared with a lead of 472 in their second innings.

Overton has then gone on to take five wickets to help bowl Notts out for 166 in their second innings and leave the home side a whopping 306 runs short.

Gone. A rising delivery from Raphy Weatherall and Matt Taylor feathers through to Ricardo Vasconcelos, who is wearing his keeping pads inside his trousers.

Taylor hung around for 59 balls but number 11 Will Williams is now out there with James Bracey. The lead is 143.

BBC Radio Northampton's Andrew Radd ponders the wisdom of turning to spin as another Liam Guthrie over concludes with one run added by Gloucestershire.

Not just yet, as Raphy Weatherall will continue, with the visitors 140 in front.
