  1. Time for us to bid you farewell from day three of the second Test at Lord's.

    England have closed with an overnight lead of 357, sitting on 177-7 after a day marred by rain in London.

    Take a read of Stephan Shemilt's report from today.

    We'll be back tomorrow from 10:45 BST for an 11:00 start, we might have some rain but the forecast is considerably better.

    Sat in the Edrich stand. It hasn’t rained for half an hour and it’s as bright as it’s been all day. Absolutely no justification for not playing right now. A real shame.

    Ridiculous to call it off! They want fans supporting Test cricket and those spectators have stuck with it all day - another 30-45 mins of play would have been a better look (plus saving authorities money on refunds)!

    This is a terrible advert for cricket. It's like the umpires are waiting for it to rain again. At least the spectators can get a refund.

    Putting through that hopeful post from Steph has, of course, seen play abandoned for the day at Lord's.

    Nearly 90 minutes after the players went off the field, the umpires have delivered the news that there will no more play today.

    England have scored 96 runs, mostly in the afternoon session, losing four wickets over the course of 24.5 overs.

    We will go again tomorrow for day four, when the forecast is a lot better (although not perfect).

    I can see blue sky beyond the pavilion for the first time today. Most of the covers are off. I suspect we've got into a situation when the players and officials suspected that was it for the day, and now they're not sure what to do. We could still play for another hour.

  6. What I will say is that there's now a line of light cloud behind the pavilion that wasn't there a few minutes ago.

    It doesn't appear to be raining either.

    If the dark cloud that's hanging directly over the ground can be blown away then we might just about have enough light to play.

    I have really enjoyed that Marcus North has brought Dan Lawrence into this England team. They like his off-spin as well. He is a better off-spinner than people give him credit for. His overs at Headingley he got nice drift and dip. That will come in handy in time.

    He seems to read the game. It was the right way to play at that moment. He has a quirky technique that has worked for him. He is very confident, knows his scoring areas. That dance down and punt over extra cover was a Harry Brook shot. He is clearly a better player than when he played for England last time. When he opened batting said not fair on him.

    I think it is a really good selection and he will have a period in the England side. We will enjoy watching him bat. And I think in time his off-spin will come in very handy indeed.

  10. Umpires Allahudien Paleker and Paul Reiffel have now walked back out to the middle again.

    It's good to get your steps back in, I suppose.

    The TV spider-cam is looping around a conference between them, third umpire Chris Gaffaney and a member of the ground staff.

    The hover cover's side sheeting is being rolled-up.

    I have no idea if this is at the instigation of the umpires - perhaps some members of the ground staff are doing training for a hyrox, or are in engaged in an elaborate piece of performance art designed to irritate online live text writers.

    I'll take the clues I can get folks, we're certainly not getting anything from the officialdom.

  13. We've had a single umpire - I believe it's third umpire Chris Gaffaney - out in the middle taking light readings.

    We're now watching him ascend the stairs to the dressing rooms.

    Decision imminent, I'd say.

  14. The weather is so dismal that late '90s Hugh Grant just wandered across the pitch, mourning his character's break-up with Julia Roberts while "Ain't No Sunshine" played from the ground's speaker system.

  15. If I had to describe how Lord's looks right now I'd say "late afternoon in February".

    It's raining, it's basically dark, further covers are being pulled onto the outfield.

    Umpires Allahudien Paleker and Paul Reiffel, what exactly are we doing here?

  16. England lost four wickets today, with Emilio Gay the first of those to fall.

    The opener added only one run to his overnight score of 30 before he was bowled by a shooter from Muhammad Abbas.

  17. Run-ups being covered up again having briefly been exposed for viewing by the umpires.

    And now we wait.

    It's really rather dark out there.

    No work on a resumption or even a formal inspection though.

  20. I can now see the pitch and all the covers are on.

    There's at least one of the umpires out there with the ground staff, brolly in hand.
