RESULT: Atlanta Braves 3-5 Los Angeles Dodgers

A little scare at the end for the Dodgers but they hold on to win the opening game of the National League Division Series.

Teoscar Hernandez sparked it off with a huge home run in the fourth inning which was followed up by home runs from Kyle Tucker and Max Muncy for the Dodgers.

The Braves had their moments with home runs from Sean Murphy and Ozzie Albies late on, but ultimately they fall behind in the series against a Dodgers side that still looks like the team to beat in the post-season.

  3. Home Run!published at 23:44 BST 3 October

Maybe the Braves are still alive here!

Ozzie Albies puts some doubt in Dodgers minds with a home run to centre field that also brings home Ronald Acuna Jr.

That cuts the Dodgers lead to two and makes it 5-3.

That makes it 5-1 and gives the Dodgers important breathing space.

Atlanta Braves 1-4 Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers extend their lead and this time it comes from Kyle Tucker.

For the Braves, Dylan Dodd has been almost as solid giving up just two hits to Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have become the dominant side in Major League Baseball, building an era that could see a historic three-peat success if they win the World Series this year.

They won 100 games and lost 62 in 2026 despite their back-to-back MVP Shohei Ohtani dropping from 55 home runs in 2025 to 30 this season.

That record earned the Dodgers a fifth straight National League West title and a 12th title in 13 seasons.

They remain favourites to win the World Series later this month.

The Atlanta Braves also won their Division in the National League East but were forced into the Wild Card Series because their record of 94 wins to 68 defeats was inferior to the Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers.

In the Wild Card Series they beat their rivals the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 to book their place in the final eight.

The Braves hit 2-4 home runs in the regular season, spearheaded by first baseman Matt Olson who recorded 41 of them.

The White Sox continue their post-season momentum with a big first win in Cleveland.

A fourth-inning home run from Munetaka Murakami broke the game open for the White Sox and their pitchers kept the Guardians in check all afternoon to ensure they won this opening game.

Remember it is best of five in the Division Series so these sides have plenty of baseball to play yet, but it is exactly the start the White Sox wanted.

  18. Last chance for Guardianspublished at 20:52 BST 3 October

Chicago White Sox 3-0 Cleveland Guardians

We are heading for the bottom of the ninth inning.

The White Sox still have their 3-0 lead and the Guardians have just three outs left to try and wrestle something out of this opening game of the American League Division Series.

Remember, we have the Los Angeles Dodgers home game against the Atlanta Braves coming next.

  19. White Sox score!published at 20:22 BST 3 October

Chicago White Sox 3-0 Cleveland Guardians

The White Sox add an insurance run to make life harder for the Guardians.

Colson Montgomery manages to edge a ball beyond third base and it stays fair.

Kyle Teel is sprinting from first base and it looks like he is not going to beat the throw and make it home, but Guardians catcher Austin Hedges drops the ball at the key moment and Teel is able to score.

The White Sox lead 3-0 at the bottom of the seventh inning.

  20. What a catch!published at 20:08 BST 3 October

Chicago White Sox 2-0 Cleveland Guardians

An unbelievable defensive play from Angel Martinez for the Guardians!

The left fielder tracks down a flyball from Tommy Pham and leaps at the wall to make an extraordinary catch before throwing back towards first base to secure the double play.

The Guardians really needed that. Can they use that to switch the momentum of this game?
