Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings with the BBC Philharmonic

Available for 29 days

Elizabeth Alker presents an afternoon of exclusive music-making from the UK and beyond including recent highlights from the Glenarm Weekend of Song. Featuring specially made recordings, with performances from the acclaimed soprano and BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, Erika Baikoff, the Grammy award-winning mezzo, Fleur Barron, and one of today's leading recital tenors, Ilker Arcayürek. Throughout the week, we'll be focusing on the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Today, it performs Mozart's joyful Symphony No 41, known as 'Jupiter' and the string section takes centre stage in the lush Romanticism of Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings. We'll also hear from one of Denmark's most exciting young chamber ensembles, the NOVO Quartet - one of our current BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists. *** BBC Philharmonic: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Symphony No 41 in C (Jupiter) BBC Philharmonic Ben Gernon (conductor) George Gershwin (arr Raaf Hekkema) An American in Paris Calefax Reed Quintet Glenarm Festival: Felix Mendelssohn Auf Flügeln des Gesanges Gruß Venezianisches Gondellied İlker Arcayürek (tenor) Simon Lepper (piano) BBC Philharmonic: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings BBC Philharmonic Glenarm Festival: Lori Laitman Four Dickinson Songs Erika Baikoff (soprano) Simon Lepper (piano) NOVO Quartet: Felix Mendelssohn Octet in E flat NOVO Quartet Aris Quartet Glenarm Festival: Franz Schubert Winterreise (Selection): 1.
