Linton Stephens introduces a week of music from some of Europe’s great summer festivals and the BBC Proms. From the BBC Proms, Kirill Petrenko conducts the Berlin Philharmonic in two great Romantic works: Elgar’s much-loved Enigma Variations and Tchaikovsky’s dramatic Fourth Symphony. From Montpellier, pianist Bertrand Chamayou performs music by Mendelssohn and Schubert, including a selection from the Songs without Words and the virtuosic Wandererfantasie.
