It was Tuesday 1st May 2001 and I was on the beautiful Island of Arran off the west coast of Scotland. I had rented a cottage near Whiting Bay for ten days and couldn't believe how lucky I was with the weather. Blue skies, white fluffy clouds and temperatures around 20c.
I had been coming to Arran first as a child with my parents and then bringing my own children as it was a haven for families. Arran is Scotland in miniature and its highest peak is Goat Fell, a very popular climb of 2,867 ft (864m), a Corbett I believe. It even has the notorious history of being the place where an alleged murder took place in July 1889. ... (continues)
