
South Africa: Tougher restrictions imposed to curb spread of coronavirus
President Ramaphosa says current measures are not enough to cope with impact of Covid-19
President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced new restrictions to limit the impact of a third wave of the coronavirus. For the next two weeks alcohol sales are banned and gatherings of all kinds are not allowed.
Police in Eswatini clashed with protestors, at the weekend who were demanding the right to vote for their own prime minister, currently appointed by King Mswati lll.
And the AU has voiced concerns about plans by the EU to introduce a Digital Covid-19 Certificate, with four vaccines, all made in Western countries approved for inclusion. The Indian-made AstraZeneca jab has been the main vaccine rolled out across Africa.
