
Germany admits colonial-era Namibia genocide
Germany has apologised for the atrocities against the Herero and Nama peoples in what is now Namibia and offers $1.3bn towards development projects.
Germany has officially acknowledged that it committed genocide against the Herero and Nama peoples during its colonial-era occupation of what is now Namibia. Tens of thousands were killed in the early 20th century massacres.
Plus the authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo have ordered the partial evacuation of Goma, and tens of thousands of residents have already fled the area, after fears that Mount Nyiragongo may erupt again.
