Why major Essex road plans have been scrapped
More than £2 million had already been spent on developing the improvements.
Drivers on a major Essex road will not see the improvements they were promised after government funding was withdrawn. More than £2 million had already been spent on developing the A127 improvements, which runs from London to Southend-on-Sea and is used by more than 80,000 vehicles a day.
A Department for Transport spokesperson said “given the challenging financial picture we inherited, we have had to make difficult decisions on a number of road projects".
