Sibelius's Fifth Symphony
From the Lighthouse in Poole, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under Mark Wigglesworth is joined by Anthony Marwood for a programme of Vaughan Williams, Tippett and Sibelius.
From the Lighthouse in Poole, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra presents a programme called 'Glorious Heights'. Tippett's Concerto for Double String Orchestra combines both traditional and modernist elements, before Anthony Marwood joins the Orchestra for The Lark Ascending, Vaughan Williams' expressive and ethereal vision of a lark taking flight. Adès reworked his Dances from Fairytale from violin and piano to a full orchestral accompaniment, drawing from English folk sources. And finally, one of the great late-romantic symphonies, Sibelius' Fifth.
Recorded last month at Lighthouse, Poole, and presented by Martin Handley.
