Pianist Richard Goode live from Wigmore Hall
Mark Forrest with an afternoon of great music-making - pianist Richard Goode live from Wigmore Hall, plus highlights from the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.
Mark Forrest brings you an afternoon of exclusive music-making, including a live concert from London's Wigmore Hall and highlights from the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Deriving inspiration from John Collier's book 'Fancies and Goodnights', pianist Richard Goode has chosen music that is intimate, surprising and full of character. Spanning more than four centuries, the programme brings together composers as diverse as Mozart, Schoenberg, Byrd, Rameau, Schubert and Janáček.
Elsewhere, in the program, there is contrasting orchestral and chamber music from across Germany. The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, conducted by Vasily Petrenko, brings Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances to life, alongside Arvo Pärt’s Greater Antiphons, a work of profound stillness and ritual beauty.
From the Imperial Hall Concerts, Füssen, comes Beethoven’s Piano Trio in B-flat, the Gassenhauer, a spirited and witty work for clarinet, cello and piano. Its playful finale takes a popular tune and transforms it through a series of inventive variations.
