Sibelius's Karelia Suite with the BBC Philharmonic

Elizabeth Alker showcases the best performances from the UK and beyond, including the BBC Philharmonic playing Sibelius's Karelia Suite.

Elizabeth Alker reflects on recent highlights from the Charles Wood Festival at Glenarm. Featuring specially made recordings, with performances from the acclaimed soprano Erika Baikoff, the Grammy award-winning mezzo Fleur Barron, and one of today's leading recital tenors, Ilker Arcayürek.

Throughout the week, we'll be shining a spotlight on the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Today, the masterful Finnish conductor John Storgårds leads the orchestra in an iconic work from Finland's greatest composer, Sibelius. The stirring 'Karelia Suite' evokes the resilient spirit of the Finnish people through majestic brass chorales and folk-inspired melodies.

We'll also hear from the NOVO Quartet, one of Denmark's most exciting young chamber ensembles - and one of our current BBC Next Generation Artists.
