Charlie and Chris are in Manchester to help Andrew and Neal transform their neglected garden with a tatty lawn and scattered potted plants into a South Africa-meets-industrial-north-east-England garden after the place fell into disrepair following some renovation work.
Andrew and Neal want a garden that celebrates their South African roots, north east England heritage and love of tropical rainforest-style plants, all with an industrial edge. They hope to include exotic plants of South Africa and a climbing rose cutting from Andrew’s grandparents’ garden. The place should be dog-friendly, bursting with year-round fragrance, vibrant plants, evergreens and autumnal colours, while also reflecting their personal memories.
The couple aren’t sure where to start. Andrew is an NHS paediatrician, and Neal is an airline pilot. Since buying their Edwardian home in 2023, they’ve been renovating, and now they seek a garden that brings out their home’s personality while honouring family memories.
