Wayne Marshall conducts Bernstein's "Jeremiah" Symphony

Linton Stephens presents outstanding performances from across the UK and beyond.

The Music is Black. As part of the BBC’s collaboration with the V&A East Museum exhibition, Radio 3 is celebrating the music of Black British composers and artists across the week. A specially commissioned new work inspired by the exhibition, "On the Shoulder of Aunties and Uncles", composed by Segun Akinola and recorded by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, will be premiered and showcased throughout the week, alongside other great music from Black British composers and favourite classical tracks performed by Black British artists.

Linton continues his week on Classical Live with visits to Switzerland and Germany today, including music by Richard Strauss, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Leonard Bernstein. The BBC Orchestras are at centre stage too, including recent recordings of Sibelius and Dvorak from The Ulster Orchestra and music by Errollyn Wallen from the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. We’ll also hear from Radio 3’s current New Generation Baroque Ensemble – The Bellot Ensemble – with a highlight from their most recent studio recording.
