Block Party

In the first episode of the new series of Outliers, we see how residents of deprived areas are showcasing their neighbourhoods and unique culture to the wider world. In Mumbai, local guides take foreigners though one of the city's biggest slums, breaking stereotypes and showing the vibrancy and creativity of the neighbourhood. In Oakland, we hear from the pioneers of a street dance style called 'Turfing'. Initially each performance was uniquely choreographed to memorialise individuals killed in gun violence, but the dance now evolved into a globally recognized art form.
