Legendary folk group Pentangle re-form for BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards
Luminaries of the British Folk music scene were out in force last night to see the return of one of its most iconic and influential groups of all time. Legendary British folk group Pentangle re-formed after nearly four decades to perform and receive the much coveted Lifetime Achievement award at this year's BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Sir David Attenborough presented the award to original Pentangle band members Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Jacqui McShee, Terry Cox and Danny Thompson. The group also performed for an audience which included Jennifer Saunders, Peter Gabriel, Nick Park, Louis de Bernieres, Lembit Opik MP, Bill Oddie and Rosanne Cash. Other winners on the night included Seth Lakeman, Folk Singer of the Year and Best Album; Chris Thile, Musician of the Year; Karine Polwart with Best Original Song (Daisy); and Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick won Best Duo. Eleven-piece folk big band Bellowhead scooped two awards – Best Group and Best Live Act. The awards featured performances from: Rosanne Cash, Salsa Celtica, Show Of Hands, Carthy & Swarbrick, Chris Thile, Karine Polwart, Seth Lakeman and Bellowhead.
