Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers get new uniform

Check out the first new Girlguiding uniform for over 30 years

Girlguiding - which includes Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers - is getting a new look, with a major redesign of its uniform.

The new range of clothing has 30 different items and 15 accessories, as well as neckerchiefs.

Members can choose which of these they want to wear, and will only need to wear a top from the new range to be considered "in uniform".

The previous uniform hadn't changed since 1990 and Girlguiding says the aim of the new design is to allow its members the "freedom to express themselves".

This is the new Guide uniform but Rainbows, Brownies and Rangers also have a fresh look

Members do not have to buy the new range straightaway and they can continue to wear their current uniform until they need a replacement.

A Girlguiding survey in June of 2,000 girls aged six to 16 in the UK, found that 93% said they felt most comfortable when able to choose how they styled themselves.

Girlguiding chief executive Felicity Oswald said when designing the new uniform they also took into account "practicality, comfort and sustainability".

Prices for the new uniform items start at £12 for a T-shirt.

The organisation said the final design of the new uniform keeps the heritage from previous uniforms and combines it with modern colours and prints.

Some of the new items even have hidden pockets in waist bands, thumb holes, and badge sashes which double as cross-body bags.

TV presenter Angellica Bell, who is also a Girlguiding ambassador, said that the new design gives "girls and volunteers the freedom to style it the way that suits them".

She added: "The new uniform empowers girls and volunteers to embrace their individuality."
