Rail travel warnings issued ahead of red extreme heat alert coming into forcepublished at 20:40 BST 23 June

Image source, EPARail operators are warning people against unnecessary travel on Wednesday and Thursday as a rare red extreme heat warning comes into force, with temperatures of up to 38C forecast for parts of southern England.
The Met Office issued the warning, which means there is a high likelihood of risk to life, for parts of southern England, the Midlands and south Wales.
It follows today's maximum temperatures of 34.6C in England and 32.2C in Wales as a heatwave grips the UK and Europe.
France recorded its hottest day on a national scale, and the country's prime minister said 40 people have drowned since the start of the heatwave. Most of Spain has been placed under a heat alert, and Italy declared a red heatwave alert in 15 cities.
Back in the UK, hundreds of schools are fully or partially closing due to the heat, with one headteacher telling the BBC her biggest concern was keeping children cool, engaged with their learning, and staying healthy.
