In addition to developing the Care Plan for your client, there are a number of activities that you might choose to complete to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the policies and practice behind the Care Plan questions. These will provide you with evidence for the relevant units and the Key Skill of Communication.
Actitity One
When you've completed the Care Plan, you could have a go the following:
- Prepare a summary of key points for your colleagues that you could use to give a presentation at a team meeting. Also put together a report in writing on one side of A4 paper.
- Put together a list of action points resulting from your discussion with Mrs. Moore clearly setting out all the things that you would need to follow up.
Actitity Two
As part of your evidence for the NVQ you need to have up-to-date training in:
- moving and handling,
- health and safety.
The units also require you to know about the following legislation and policies that are in place in your organization. Your Care Plan should show that you understand how these policies impact on your client:
- data protection - including recording, reporting, storage and security of information;
- equality, diversity and discrimination and rights;
- health and safety;
- risk assessments relevant to the situation.
Research the following areas in relation to the sector you're working in. You could look up information on the Internet, talk to colleagues and your tutor and look into your company's own policies for each.
- moving and handling
- health and safety
- data protection
- equality, diversity, discrimination and rights
Now have a go at writing a report that describes HOW you would use the policies in relation to completeing your Care Plan. Include your action points and identify exactly what you found to be the needs of your client.
Actitity Three
Prepare a presentation on your experience of going through all the activities in this section. In it include the main things you've learned about talking to your client, preparing the Care Plan and presenting all the information to your collegues. Here are some issues you should be thinking about:
- What has helped you to learn? (For example, working through the BBC Care activities and then maybe doing it for REAL! Or researching all the guidance and information)
- Did anything hinder your learning? (For example, not having access to your home's policies.)
- When you come to do a Care Plan again, is there anything you would change in your approach? Why?
