On Tuesday 11 November, thousands of people flocked to Mayflower Park and vantage points along Southampton Water to watch QE2's final departure.

After a spectacular fireworks display off Mayflower Park, QE2 set sail for Lisbon just after 20:00 accompanied by a huge flotilla of vessels.

QE2 left flying her red "paying off" pennant from her mast to mark the end of her commission - QE2's is particularly impressive as the pennant's length is determined by years of service, one foot for each of her 39 years.

During her last day in Southampton to mark the 90th anniversary of the Armistice, one million poppies were dropped over QE2 just after 11am. Later in the afternoon there was a sail and flypast from RFA Mounts Bay and three patrol boats and an RAF Harrier.
