South:Live

Sunday nights on BBC Radio Solent are all about the music as Phil Jackson presents South:Live - a special two hour show featuring the region's up and coming bands.

At the beginning of March we were introduced a band called Boypatient. In the event that you missed their radio debut in the demo panel, they are a slightly left-field indie-pop band and on Sunday (April 6) they will be carrying on the fine tradition of South:Live's weekly excursions into the South's sonic unknown on BBC Radio Solent.

Their influences include Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Elliott Smith, and Interpol and the band describe the resulting sound as "mixing delicacy with intensity, intelligence with passion and honesty with a strong DIY band ethic".

Last Sunday's epic sessions from Autumn Chorus will be a tough to beat (listen again on bbc.co.uk/hampshire ), but on the advice of the demo panel, we're confident that Boypatient will do us proud when they deliver four of their best from the South:Live Live Lounge.

Every Sunday we give three local bands the opportunity to get up close and professionally personal with music industry experts (for better or for worse) and this Sunday, the demo panel will be listening to tracks by The Long Run, Geisha, and The Plymouths. Regardless of the panels opinions if you think that one of them has got the right stuff then we want to know.

Get in touch with the show by text (07786 20 70 70) or if you need a bit more space then you can email us using south.live@bbc.co.uk

If you're an unsigned musician based in Dorset and you fancy a crack at the panel then we want to hear from you. Send your CDs to South:Live BBC Broadcasting House, 40 - 42 Queen's Rd., Brighton. BN1 3XB.

Before you reach for a jiffy bag however, here are a few tips:

* We only accept submissions on CD. MP3's crash our inbox (which puts the presenter in a VERY bad mood).

* Selected submissions will be considered for on-air evaluation by a panel of music industry experts (the demo panel), and receipt of your CD will indicate your consent.

* Tracks with obscene, defamatory, sexist or homophobic lyrics will get as far as the bin

* Before you pop your demo into your postal pouch of choice, MAKE SURE THAT IT WORKS!!!

* Include current contact details (including a mobile number) on EVERYTHING you submit.

* Due to the volume of submissions that we receive, we cannot return your CD.

End of the Road Festival

As spring begins to spring in earnest music lovers across the south will be airing out their tents for yet another season of out-door musical delights and we'll be finding out about how new bands can play at the award-winning End of the Road Festival.

In music news, Paul Weller has teamed up with Noel Gallagher and Gem Archer on a new single and we'll be giving you details about that in our round up of music news, along with tipping more gigs across the south over in the week that's to come.

South:Live brings you the very best new music from across the South on Sunday evenings from 7 - 9 on BBC Radio Solent , and here's what you heard last Sunday (March 30, 2008):

Betika: The Contender (Live session re-play) / Autumn Chorus: Rosa pt 1 (Live session) / The Rolling Stones: Paint it Black / Autumn Chorus: Rosa pt 2 (Live session) / Nina McCann: The One I Love / The Martin Harley Band: Chocolate Jesus (live session re-play) / The Velvet Hearts: Serotonin (Live session replay) / Autumn Chorus: The Hills The Heavens and Us (Live session) / Mangataot: Venus
