Did you know, whilst filming for Star Wars (Now called Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope), Mark Hamill, also known as Luke Skywalker, would watch Blue Peter. If you've earned your Blue badge, you're in the company of a certified Jedi Master!
Mark Hamill's first appearance on Children's TV was to promote his brand new and at the time, absolutely mind blowing new film packed full of special effects, space battles and a weird and wonderful new magic. Yes, that's Star Wars!
Mark Hamill's first appearance on Children's TV was Blue Peter in 1977.
The first film broke new ground in filmmaking where the state of the art effects paired with a traditional fairytale-type story where the farm boy meets a princess amazed audiences and ignited their imaginations.

If you've ever wanted to see Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia talk about filming Star Wars whilst handling the cutest cats, dogs and tortoises you've ever seen... Then this is the clip you are looking for.
Discover some behind the scenes secrets of filming The Empire Strikes Back straight from Mark Hamill and hear how they had planned the prequel trilogy way back in 1980.
The droids and costumed characters from The Empire Strikes Back visit the Blue Peter studio, whilst Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher play with the Blue Peter pets.
This is the moment that iconic characters from Star Wars visited the Blue Peter studio. Mischievous droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, plus the giant walking carpet Chewbacca, and even the fearsome Darth Vader showed off their costumes. Although not everything went to plan, and R2-D2 nearly ran over poor Goldie!
Mark looks especially cosy with one of our Blue Peter pet cats snuggled up warm in his jumper, whilst Carrie plays with one of our old and lovely tortoises.
Plus, Luke and Leia tried one lucky Blue Peter viewer's recipe for Star Wars stew. The Blue Peter fan said that they invented this recipe as they were so hungry after getting back from seeing Empire Strikes Back in the cinema!
