What is May Day?

May Day is usually celebrated on the 1st or at the beginning of May halfway between the spring equinox and summer solstice. This European festival dates back nearly a thousand years and it is celebrated across the UK by doing maypole dancing, Morris dancing and crowning a May Queen.
