How does personalised learning work?
Step 1: Get started
- You’ll need a BBC account to sign in. It’s free to sign up - one account works across all BBC services.
- Answer seven questions about your confidence and progress. This helps us personalise the level of support and challenge as you study.
- Your dashboard shows what to study next and your weekly progress.
Step 2: Choose a topic to study

- Start each topic with a few questions to check your understanding. Then you’ll be shown content that’s most useful for your revision.

- Explore the Bitesize revison content then answer questions adapted to your level
- Get instant feedback on your answers and a summary of your progress at the end of each unit
- When you’ve understood a topic, move on to the next one. If you want to practise more, you can revise the material again and keep it fresh in your mind

Bitesize personalised learning uses a specially-designed algorithm, to build your study plan, based on what you know and where you may need some additional practice.
Questions are created using AI generation tools and by educational experts. Humans are involved at each stage.
All questions are checked by subject experts to make sure everything is accurate; you can trust that both the questions and recommendations you get are aligned with what you need to know.

Which subjects does it cover?
Currently, personalised learning is only available for GCSE AQA physics. Other subjects and exam boards are being developed and will follow soon.
Which topics can I practise?
You can practise all topics included in the GCSE physics AQA exam board. This means you can be confident that the content you're being shown is relevant to your physics revision and covers the topics you need to know.
How long does each section take?
None of the sections have time limits and are designed to be completed at a speed that works for you. The number of questions in a section is shown at the start.
Why should I use personalised learning?
If you're not sure where to start, personalised learning will guide you to the right topics and help you focus on the topics you need to. As you learn, the quizzes and study plan adapt to you, so you can spend less time on what you already know and more time improving your knowledge gaps.
Do I need to subscribe or pay to use it?
There’s no subscription or payment needed. All you need is a free BBC account, the same one you might use to sign in to other BBC services, to use Bitesize personalised learning.
Your data and privacy
You’re in control of your data.
For parents and guardians
Bitesize personalised learning uses your child’s answers and activity to personalise their learning.
It uses information like progress and confidence to show them the right level of content. This is used only to support your child’s learning. It's not used to change their behaviour or for marketing.
For accounts for under-13s, personalisation is off by default. Only a parent or guardian can turn them on. You can them turn on or off in your account settings.
