The Director-General chairs an Executive Committee, which is responsible for the day-to-day running of the BBC.

The Executive Committee is responsible for delivering the BBC’s services, in accordance with the strategy agreed by the Board and for all aspects of operational management.
The Executive Committee meets regularly and oversees key strategic projects and proposals of importance to the whole organisation. It takes regular reports on audience and financial performance, as well as maintaining oversight of pan-BBC policy and operational issues. The membership of the Executive Committee saw substantial change during the year. Gautam Rangarajan left the BBC on 30 April 2025 and John Curbishley joined the Committee in the role of Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer on 1 April. On 12 June 2025, Rhodri Talfan Davies stepped back from his role as Director, Nations and was replaced by Rhuanedd Richards as Interim Director, Nations from 13 June 2025. Kate Phillips was confirmed as the substantive Chief Content Officer on 18 June 2025.
Following the resignation of Deborah Turness on 9 November 2025 Jonathan Munro joined the Committee as the Interim CEO, News and Current Affairs. Tim Davie also resigned on 9 November 2025 and stepped down from his role on 2 April 2026.
Rhodri Talfan Davies rejoined the Executive Committee on 1 February 2026 and took on the role of Interim Director-General upon Tim’s departure. He remained in this role until the appointment of Matt Brittin as Director-General, announced on 25 March 2026 and with a start date of 18 May 2026.
On 9 June 2026 it was announced that Rhodri Talfan Davies had been appointed Deputy Director-General.
On 30 November 2025 Alan Dickson left his role as Chief Financial Officer. Rhona Burns took on the role of Interim Chief Financial Officer at this point, until Bérangère Michel joined the BBC on 5 January 2026 as Group Chief Financial Officer and became a member of the Committee.
On 3 March 2026 it was announced that Storm Fagan would take on the expanded role of Chief Technology and Product Officer, overseeing the creation of BBC Media Tech.
As part of these announcements it was also confirmed that Leigh Tavaziva would leave the BBC on 1 September 2026 and the Group Chief Operating Officer role would close at that point.

Next Generation Committee
The BBC Next Generation Committee (NGC) was established by the Director-General in 2017 with the purpose of advising the BBC Executive Committee and Senior Leaders and ensuring younger people’s voices and ideas are heard at executive level.
The NGC is composed of 15-20 younger members of staff from across the organisation for a period of 12-18 months. In 2025/26 the Committee developed proposals on; reframing BBC Introducing to reflect how younger audiences create and engage with content, strengthening the relevance and impact of media literacy content amongst younger audiences, and evolving the role and remit of the NGC to maximise the value it provides to the organisation.
