Attendance: Flawless record from 1992-1995, when their second album met with a lukewarm response from pop fans, who'd discovered that Oasis, Elastica and Blur could make more intriguing noises. Brian Harvey bunked off permanently in 1997 (see Behaviour). B+

Bonding: It was all plain sailing until 1997, when Brian Harvey admitted to the world that he used the drug ecstasy and was immediately kicked out of the group. They split, but later reformed without lynchpin Mortimer, and after scoring (no drugs pun intended) a hit with 'Each Time', were dropped by Telstar. A-

Behaviour: Forget the rest of band, it's all about Mr Harvey. His ecstasy comments landed right after the much publicised death of teenager Leah Betts, prompting John Major to comment on Harvey's pro-drug spiel in the House of Commons. He then took up the bad boy of pop role, calling Mel C an idiot and saying that Richard Ashcroft made him want to cut his wrists. He was jailed for 59 days in 2001 for breaching an injunction order put in place by his estranged wife. The other boys were tame by comparison, so Brian has spoiled it for all of them. D+

Physical Education: The note-from-mum-making machine was in full effect here. These skinny tykes didn't do much to buff up their image and the girls wanted muscle. F
