The Robert Peston ‘phone-in

As Northern Rock shareholders waited to learn what, if anything, they'll get for their shares after the bank was nationalised, the man who broke the story of the bank’s troubles took your calls on BBC Tees.

In February 2009, Robert Peston was one of five business journalists questioned by the government's Treasury Select Committee about how far the media affected, as well as reported upon, the current financial crisis.

All five defended their reporting and claimed the media acted responsibly, but some in business still claim that 24 hour media coverage helped stoke the panic that spread through the money markets in 2007 and 2008.

Robert Peston joined BBC Tees' John Foster and Keith Hunter, Managing Director of TTE Technical Training Group for the debate.
