Postcards from the Potteries
North Staffordshire Postcards
From Keele to Salzburg with love!
Stoke-on-Trent's attractions can rival that of many other European cities. At least, that's what a new marketing drive will have us believe...

The last time you were on the banks of the River Seine, sipping coffee and enjoying a croissant or two, were you reminded of Hanley's bars?

And the time when you relaxed on Amsterdam's waterways, were you dreaming of the Cauldon Canal?

Confused? Don't have a clue, what we're talking about? Read on...

Continental Stoke
Postcards and posters comparing Stoke-on-Trent favourably with European cities are to be used in a new marketing campaign for North Staffordshire.

The continental-look images of the area are intended to show that culture, commerce and the good life can be had in this area.

Can Stoke-on-Trent really look European?

The pictures show scenes from Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle, but the subjects, angles and the light are used to give the pictures a European feel.

The photographs compare places such as Keele Hall to Salzburg, Bar la de Dah in Hanley looks like a bar in like Paris and Royal Doulton's Head Quarters on Festival Park are featured in the postcard Welcome to Amsterdam!

Distribution
The postcards and posters are aimed at business travellers arriving in the region by air

They will be distributed throughout the airports which serve Staffordshire at Birmingham, Manchester and the East Midlands.

By the way, just in case anyone's fooled, the reverse does say that the pictures on the postcards were actually taken in Staffordshire!

But are they convincing and do you think they will help to transform the image of North Staffordshire?

What is the point of trying to attract visitors to our City when they are greeted by the moronic thugs that seem to make up the majority of the population, and are treated in the same way as those attending the recent Continental Market?

Derek Hampton Mukilteo Washington USA
Have been to the stoke area on several times to visit family and think they should promote their own character. Show business people the differences so that they want to see the area. Not show them how like it is to where they live, but show the things that make Staffshire a nice place to visit.

Chris Taylor
Cheeky but quite effective! I like the idea!

Presuming Ed
This area needs real change, something palpable rather than a makeover by imagemakers. The sooner that the people who run this area realise that the best way out is to make Stoke more creative, the better!
