Darren Campbell's sprint chances have suffered a setback after it was revealed he has a torn hamstring.

Campbell, who won silver in the 200m in Sydney, thought he was suffering from muscle cramp but a scan has now revealed a slight tear.

"I'm told it should be okay. I'll know more over the coming hours but I'll be saying a few prayers," said Campbell.

Campbell, 30, one of Britain's outside hopes of medal, is due to line up in the 100m heats on Saturday.

The news comes after it was revealed fellow sprinter Christian Malcolm had been hospitalised with kidney problems at the Olympic holding camp in Cyprus.

The 25-year-old spent five days in hospital with acute renal failure but has now been discharged and has resumed training ahead of the 200m heats.
